Hi, guys!

Did you know that the 3rd of August is the national non-official day of the watermelon

Also you must know that a watermelon isn't a fruit or a vegetable. It's a big berry!

At first this party took place in the USA but nowadays it's conquering the world day by day.

WATERMELON HISTORY

Watermelons came from South Africa where you can still find the wild watermelons in the local jungles. This wild watermelon is considered to be the relative of the well-known watermelon. But the DNA-analysis showed that these wild and typical watermelons are both connected to the ancient herb called "Citrullus ecirrhosus" that grows in the Kalkhari desert.

Ancient Egyptians knew about watermelons and cultivated them on their lands. The watermelon seeds were found in the pyramids that can be considered an evidence. People thought that in another world the great Pharaoh will eat watermelons. Also this tasty berry was mentioned in old papyruses.

The watermelon was known to the old Rome people if you read the verses by Vergilius. People usually ate fresh or salty watermelons as well as they prepared watermelon honey. By the 10th century the Chinese had already known the watermelon and called it "The melon of the west". Every September they made a watermelon party.

Watermelons were taken to Europe after the famous Crusades. As for Russia, ancient tatars brought watermelons on that land.

SOME FUNNY WATERMELON EXPRESSIONS, PROVERBS AND IDIOMS

Now here what I liked about watermelons:

  • "Marriage is an uncut watermelon" :)
  • "Putting watermelons under someone's arm"
  • "Don't pick up two watermelons with one hand"
  • "If you pick up a sesame seed, you may drop a watermelon"

SO HAPPY WATERMELON DAY, GUYS!

By the way:

  • Do you have any special watermelon recipes? If yes, please, share here!:)

Best regards, gardener Bee :)

The red is color of violence but it Is preferred in case of watermelon .
