    3. Look, the members of the committee didn't erve dinner. It was served for them.

    4. "For not follow". What is that?

    5. I would accept it as correct if the last clause were affirmative.

    6. No, it is wrong. Try to correct my sentence instead of writing your own.

    9. No, it is incorrect.

    10. Why did you use the past perfect tense? It is incorrect. Besides, the end of the sentence is incorrect, too. SO THAT clause sounds ridiculous here.

Let me say the following to all participants, please:

Tanya and Danny always want us to write proper English sentences by considering the correct grammar rules.
I can't stand my failing all the time. I hate it.
To decide using the infinitive or the gerund is always a big challenge to me.
Danny asked me if we use in German (my native language) similar rules like gerunds. Of course, we do.
In German, we change verbs to nouns as well as in Eglish, and we can use them as the subject, the complement, or the object of a sentence.
It's well-known, German grammar rules are more complicated than the English ones.
Using grammar automatically is natural in our mother tongue.
Correct speaking and writing are natural because we must not think about rules.
Tanya and Danny always mind helping us correct our mistakes. They always asked attending the rules. Sometimes I wonder why they keep patiently.
If I was Tanya or Danny, and in case we kept complaining to correct our mistakes, again and again, it would annoy me. (LOL)
I can't believe that they enjoy reading our writings though Danny always enjoys writing his funny stories of his nightmares.
Our mistakes are the ideas for writing.
So we all have an advantage.

(Did I use the infinitive and gerund correctly ? )

  • Thanks tanya, yes it sounds treaky.
  • Dear Bet! Danny gave you two correct options and explained them. Answering your question, CALL is an infinitive. It doesn't have the past simple form at all. It is not a predicate. SOMEONE CALL is a complement. Only a main verb can be in the past simple form. I though we had posted some blogs explaining the Compex Object but I can't find any. I will look through the blogs once again.

  • Okay, I got it but have a question....why having heard someone call me why not called me
  • Dear Mishaink, I am very glad to see you on my test but I am really sorry to say that almost all sentences are incorrect. So, let's see what mistakes you have made or haven't corrected.

    1. "AT the bar". It is not a big deal but I mean that the people were inside. However, the most principle mistake is that DESPITE can't be followed by a clause.

    2. Correct.

    3. First, "go on" is corrcet. It means 'to continue". The meaning of the sentence is that the members of the committee were served dinner, ate it and then continued their work.

    4. Such form of the infinitive doesn't tell us that the advice was given earlier.

    5. It is not bad.

    6. The verb "to hear" must be followed by the infinitive without TO. So, SOMEONE'S is wrong. It means that CALLING is a gerund. Besides, we look OUT OF the window. Also, the word order in the last clause is incorrect. It is not a question.

    7. It is the unreal condition in the past. So, the tense in the first clause is wrong. The second clause can't contain any modal verb. In the third clause is a wrong position of an adverb.

    8. It is correct to use the infinitive after CONSIDER. But look here, now we think that the castle was founded. The infinitive must be in tyhedifferent form. Besides, "with the help of" sounds strange, doesn't it? Either they founded it or not. ROMANS defines a nation.

    9. It is not bad. Your sentence is correct although it is not what I meant.

    10. Planes arrive on schedule. The tense is wrong. Besides, "find it out".

Thank you and try to correct your mistakes, please!
