It's really great that you have fulfilled a dream of visiting the Big Apple. I was enamored of your trip and enjoyed those fascinating stories and photos, particularly the cue cards and that sumptuous cheese cake you shared on MyEC. Unlike your trip to the big city, last August we took Express Train to visit a small village named Houtong, a paradise of cats, where is located in the north part of Taiwan.
When we arrived there, I it was hard to believe my eyes that so many people even had the same purpose as ours. We had a great time with those lovely cats. We fed them, took pictures with them and played with them. Here you can see the attached photos I took and a video from YouTube.
There are about hundreds of cats living in this area. Some are stray cats and some are thrown away owing to the sickness or other reasons. Fortunately, a group of volunteers cooperate with the local residents to carry out T.N.R. regularly so as to control the number of cats. They also help to clean the environment, cats' houses and take them to the hospital. Some vets join to inject cats with vaccine Fel-O-Vax IV that could prevent diseases.
I believe those creatures that are living a happy life in Houtong. They don't have their homey bed and toy as housecats, but have nature with freedom to be their home; they don't have a real owner to take care of them, but have a lot of cat lovers and volunteers to accompany and look after them. I appreciate they gave us a VERY exceptional and unforgettable trip. With the coming of August, I miss them again and long for a chance to call on that cat's paradise very soon.
