In one of my previous blog entries; I mentioned some flowery idiomatic expressions. It seems like I'm not done with idioms yet. How about another category? Fruits. Mmm, yummy, huh? All righty, then. Let's get to work. It'll be fun and fruity!
apples and oranges: (of two people or things) fundamentally different
Comparing the average salary of a worker and a manager is like trying to compare apples and oranges.
not give (or care ) a fig: not have the slightest concern about
Carl didn't give a fig for Jill's comfort.
go bananas: go crazy; become extremely angry/excited:
He went bananas when I said I was going to quit my job.
plum: a highly desirable accomplishment
Her plum for getting elected was a new office.
lemon: a defective item esp. a car
That sleazy car salesman sold me a lemon.
sour grapes: a negative attitude in which someone adopts to something 'cause they can't have it themselves
They dismissed many of the complaints as sour grapes.
a bowl of cherries: [ usu. with negative ] an enjoyable situation
Being in the band isn't a bowl of cherries.
