There's an old saying that goes like this; all that glitters is not gold; meaning the attractive external appearance of something is not; repeat NOT a reliable indication of its true nature. I neither know nor care who created this fantasy art, but it's eerily accurate as a pictorial example for the aforementioned proverb. Don't get me wrong; I'm a live version of ''We got tonight, who needs tomorrow?''; but I mean, come on! Even I, with that "If I'm 'bout to go down, I'll go down swingin'" attitude, ain't that dumb. Life's not a happily-ever-after movie, kids. You know what? I blame Disney.
The Little Mermaid... huh. Between you and me, I like the original version better.

Ahhh, Joan. I cannot wait to buy a wire hanger.
Yup! That's how I became suspicious about what grown-ups were telling me and realized that, as you very well said, "Fairy tales are just a big, fat lie"... and that's why I became atheist :P
Btw nice Joan Crawford's gif XD
I'm just sayin' they're illusions, a bunch o' lies wrapped in a magnificent box. But hey, who am I to judge? It's not like those kids are gonna realize life's a b**ch and the reality is gonna kick them in the um... shins sooner or later. As long as everybody's happy, huh? Ah... them idjits will never learn.
I was here the whole time. Lurkin' in the shadows...
Boo!
Andersen. Right. You see, I'm used to Alvin Schawrtz's books when it comes to bedtime stories; as a kid, fairy tales just didn't hit the spot for me, you know what I'm sayin'? So cut me some slack. I thought, ''OK, gore, rape and violence; gotta be the Grimm boys.'' I mean, is their name a coincidence? Don't think so.
Little MARY, realizes fairy tales are just a big, fat lie, and then comes the water works... priceless! I mean awww...
Like that Joan Crawford attitude, though. Go mom!
Ah... Mommie Dearest.
Oh I blame Disney too! But when I was a kid I was blaming Andersen! Poor him! :D
I'll never forget 'my story' with the Little Mermaid... When I was a kid I used to watch the Little Mermaid (Disney version) non-stop, so my mom bought the book for me... but the original version (btw, a small correction: it's not by Grimms' brothers but Hans Christian Andersen's :))
I remember I started reading the book all excited and happy... but I ended it all shocked! I didn't expect it at all! The stupid guy marrying other woman??! The little mermaid killing herself??! What crappy story was that!! I was in shock! haha... I'll never forget how I looked at my mom with watering eyes --exactly like this:
And saying to her in a tiny voice: "...This book is wrong... "
I can laugh now about it, but it was a terrible experience to find out the 'real story'! XD
Anyway, it was a good 'lesson' and I'm happy that my mom gave me the original story. That book I hated back then now I love it and still I keep it with me. Thanks for bringing me memories with this blog A738a :)
And thanks for coming back! Some people here were missing you ;)
It's not necessarily about Ariel or Eric per se. I just wanted it to be more relatable, you know?
No, there is not. Wow! You single-handedly defiled a classic rock song. Kudos.
Nice one! I my self prefer like original version of mermaid where Ariel turned into foam and washed away in ocean. Seems more realistic for me. Talking about live-is-no-happily-ever-after, some folks need to learn a bit hard to realize this, more than to give 'up' all disney movies lol xD
is there any mentioned about 'We have now, who needs later'? lmao
you Jane.
PS. Come on, Fedora.
