Foods in Hong Kong at Night

When it comes to food , Hong Kong , my country, is the place first comes to my mind.It is my food paradise.

Hong Kong is a great city,  various food and cuisines form over the world such as Japanese, Chinese, Viennese , Italian, American , British you name it you can explore here. As long as you want to eat them , you can go to restaurants and order them .Since Hong Kong is a night city, you can have your 4th meal ,a meal after dinner , in your own district or shopping area.

The food of the 4th meal is usually cheap , about 5-30 HKD.The reason why they are so cheap is because ingredients of food are cheap and can make a load of them for selling so that the cost is further reduced.Beside, most of ingredients you find in supermarkets , wet markets can be part of the 4th meal.

Barbecue is one of the famous and popular in night markets.Sausages, pork , beef and  chicken wings are a must to eat. Every time you arrive night markets , a long long queue of people who may just be off form work, after shopping and complete their workout is in front of each mobile store for their desire of food, apparently  they dont care their daily calories quota.Foods are irresistible, haha. The time takes for each customers may be around 30s-a minute; if the queue is long enough you may wait for 5-10 minutes for foods for a store. Finally, ones may spend more than half an hour for the food journey. Weathers do not wear down(erode) their "eagerness" for those tasteful foods. In summer night, hot night is nothing to those lining up as well as prickling wind blew( blow, blew ,blown) to them in winter.

Living in HK is the best present my parents give me in my life.At least you are not never suffering hunger in the middle of the night and there is no food in your refrigerator and no convenient store around your place. Foods in the night market are various , delicious and fulfilling to both mental needs, our desire for food and physiological needs, hunger.

  • Well, I can't say that food from your picture looks great to me... But I totally believe that the food of your place is awesome, if you said so!

Today the mean dentist took off one of my wisdom teeth and I haven't eating anything since more than 12 hours ago... I'm hungry and I could eat whatever  -even the plastic bags of the food from your picture-  if it wasn't so painful (poor me) :(

  • Dear Sheldon,

Thank you very much for your informative post. Nowadays, the tendency towards ready-to-eat foods has increased a lot particularly among youths. However, I personally don't enjoy eating outdoor. So, I try to avoid eating these kinds of foods as much as possible. By the way, I didn't mean to talk you out of eating these foods. As this proverb goes: " To each his own."

    Good appetite
