Femto Lasik laser: My experience (Part 2)

So, that was it. The whole process lasted about 15-20 minutes. I was seeing clearly. I didn’t have myopia anymore but there was a blur, like there was fog. As seconds passing, I wasn’t feeling good. I was feeling that there was something inside my eyes that I need to remove it. I wanted to rub them but I couldn’t even touch them! My eyes were stinging and also I couldn’t keep them open for many seconds. I was closing and opening them and making patience till my doctor come. Anyway, I took off the green shirt and the rest and after some minutes my doctor came and gave me the papers with the measurement of my myopia and the receipt from the payment. By the way, just for the history, the cost for the operation was 1.500 €.

I wore the sunglasses and we got in the car. He put in my eyes the eye drops that I brought with me as he had asked me. They were 3 kinds of eye drops that I needed to put very often during the day, for many days, especially the technical tears which I would put them for the next 6 months. We stopped in a café, he took coffee for him and for me orange juice. «It will make you relax» he told me. On the way back, we were talking about various things. About his family, about movies etc. Most of the time I had my eyes closed. This helped me much not to feel stinging and the feeling that something was inside.

When we arrived it was already dark outside. He advised me how much often I must put the drops, he also told me that I must sleep on my back for the first 2-3 days and he reminded me not to touch my eyes. I would visit him in his office the next day, to see my eyes. Till that hour I can say that I was ok, but in home, the bad feelings became worse. The light was annoying me, so I turned it down and I lay down on the couch.

When I decided to do the operation, doctor gave me a paper with the effects and the instructions that I have to follow. I had read them once and I had left it on the desk. I didn’t give much attention on it. I took it and I read it again:

Post-operative instructions for the operation laser Lasik

Symptoms:

After surgery you may have some of the following:

Foreign body sensation
Photophobia
Blurred vision
Headache
Red eye
Swollen eyelids
Pain in the eye

All these are transient. They are more intense in the first 24 hours, especially the in first night and they subside gradually in the next 1-2 days. The proper use of drops which are prescribed by your doctor with a good sleep will help you to overcome them.

For any other case that worries you, contact with your ophthalmologist.

Return to daily routine:

Do not touch and do not rub your eyes.
Do not wet your eyes for 7 days. Have bath with closed eyes and head back, as in the hairdressing salon.
It would be good the first 15 days to avoid the gym, indoor and grimy areas, as well as the use of cosmetics around the eyes.
Driving is allowed after you feel confident with your sight.
For any other questions, we are at your disposal.

I had almost all the symptoms. I didn’t have headache and the pain maybe was just my idea. I was hoping to sleep as soon as possible but unfortunately I slept late.

When I woke up in the morning it was difficult to open my eyes because they were dry. But they were better. The swelling had almost subsided and the blur and stinging had gone. I visited the doctor and he checked my eyes on the machines. My myopia was 0,25. Yeah baby! :D I thought it would be 0 but it is almost the same, I could see clearly. He told me that all these side effects would go till next day. He gave me specific sterile wipes to wipe my eyes from the eye drops that fall around them and he also told me that after 1-2 months I will see more clearly, something that happened indeed.

I went back to work after 4 days and I didn’t work on computer at all. The next days, I was absolutely fine and I did the mistake to spend 1-2 hours in my laptop, in internet. (Btw, I lowered the brightness of the screen in laptop and mobile). Doing that for some days, I felt my eyes very tired and a little blurred. Worrying, I went to the doctor and after he checked and saw that everything is fine, he told me that my eyes are tired because of the computer, I wasn’t ready for that yet, and probably they are blurred because I didn’t wet my eyes and they are “dirty” from the eye drops that I put everyday. I didn’t use computer for many days and indeed I saw much difference. And when he allowed me to wet my eyes, every blur gone. Still, when I am long hour in computer, my eyes are tiried but as time passes they are better and better.

That was my experience with the laser operation. It is amazing the feeling of seeing perfect clearly. I see even the smallest details. Crystal! Even though the money is much, it worths.

Thanks for reading and the patience…!

  • AG yes, the difference between the Lasik methods is just in procedure. In simple Lasik it is used a microkeratome (blade) but in Femto Lasik it is used a laser. The results are same. And there is always the PRK method which is the oldest but I don't know anything about it. I dont know if it is still used because it is so old method. Anyway, it is the doctor that will tell you which method is proper for your eyes after he check them. I thought you have already gone to a doctor and gave you the option to select.

Here in Greece, because we have much sun, the best seasons to do laser operation is autumn and winter, so the annoyance of the sun is less. However, you can go in every season, except if you are busy. :D Btw, is it so difficult to take a break from your job for some days? Well, till you are sure for that, I advice you to ask a doctor for all the information.

Well, I am glad that they didn't rob you :D

AG, in important things for me, I give always a detailed description and I have to say that my best friend sometimes can't stand me :D  You, at least you smiled :)) Thank you so much for your nice words, you are nice person too ^_^

  • Hahahaha... Your details really make me smile... Your speech is trully very feminine and this makes me smile very widely.. those details are truly what makes this blog beautiful :)
Well, I have just released that I made a mistake when reading the price.. I thought it was US dollar.. now I can say that it costs the same here by Euro.. Now; I can feel I am not being robbed at least :P
Well; in fact I am thinking about normal lasik; because it seems to me that it only differs in procedure but not in results.. please tell me if I am true about that.. if Only procedure is different; then I can take the normal lasik and save sime money. This is what I am thinkng about actually..
Actually; I need to do it but I still dont know when.. the problem is only that I am damn busy at work...
Well; you are really nice person and I appreciate this so much :)
    Thank you again ^^
  • Oh Gosh... I knew that it will be a tiring blog... but anyway, it helped you as you say :D
I don't know the exchange rate of dollar-euro but it seems much difference. How long time you are thinking about doing laser? Are you in rush to do it? I would tell you to wait for the Femto but even with the special offer, it costs much! Robbers are everywhere. Before I go to my doctor, I asked another doctor, and she told me that the cost is 1.800 euros :/

My best friend did it three years ago and when she adviced me she told me that the symptoms and how much you have to be careful after operation, are more important and difficult than the moment of the operation. However, she didn't have any of this symptoms, only red eyes. She used mobile and laptop from the next day and every day, without any problem. Not all people have all the symptoms. So, do not worry. :) For any case you should take 2-3 days off, from your job :) Ask advice from your doctor. Btw, is he a trustworthy doctor?

Hahahha, the truth is that I was thinking to delete that part with people and aquarium but I liked it and I kept it, lol. I have already told you in the first part, the details that I deleted. Hmm... one more detail that I remembered now is that before they apply the Femto laser, I had my eyes closed and my doctor said with a little strict way:"Elen, don't clench your eyes". "I don't clench them", I answered. And he replied: "Oh, ok then". And the other doctor laughed. :D A funny moment that I wanted to write in the blog but I couldn't :)

Please inform me when you have news and I am waiting for reading about your experience. Everythig will be fine!

I thank you for reading and commenting :)

  • Estanis, better late than never :)

Oh, I see that this operation influenced you more than me. Which method was used? Did your height really changed because of this? Btw, when I tell foreign body sensation I mean inside my eyes. I was feeling that there was something inside my eyes. How you felt that you were living in other's body? :D I didn't have such a feeling, thanks God :D Ohhh, this photophobia it was very annoying. I wanted toο, to be in a dark room :D

About if the myopia will be increased in the future, doctor told me that there is no such problem. Although I have read in internet that there is a chance in persons who have very much myopia.

Yes, lucky me, the cost is reduced compared to other years.

And yes, we have somthing common now, haha :D

Thanks for your precious comment :)

  • Sigh :D
I have just finished reading :D
Actually, I have read every single word very carefully and very happily.. The reason is That I have been thinking to have this operation done on my eyes just this month.. And guess what!! Those robbers!!! The normal Laser operation costs here 1500$ after a very special discount and excluding the orange juice and transportation by car :| As to Femto Laser, here it costs 2000$ also with a special offer that comes only once a year. That's why I am going to take the normal Laser Option but unfortunately without the orange juice :P
    Well Well Well..
I also have short-sightedness which rates 1.75 degrees in one eye and 2.25 degree in another eye.. reading these two blog, I have learnt everything about it that I would thank you so much for publishing them... I become only worried about the following symptoms especially the use of computer and laptop, because I will be doing nothing at work without my computer on..
Well.. Seriously what other details could be told in your blogs.. I am really wondering :/
you even told about the minutes that you spend waiting in the lobby and watching people who were passing by :D
    But seriously it was enjoying..
Thank you so much for publishing that again :)
Keep it up and congratulations on the success of the operation..

  • Elen...!

I was expecting to read the blog of your operation and I now see I come a bit late haha... o.K. finally I did :)
I think I told you I went through this operation too when I was around 19 or 20 years old. Btw, in those days it was more expensive (although my parents paid lol...) and you made me remember that strange feeling of living in other's body or that suddenly my height changed, I know it sounds like I'm mad but that's true hahaha... it was the only symptom I had so as fhotofhobia, for some time I just wanted to enclose myself in a dark room :D
Anyway, like you, everything was perfect too. I had 2.5 and 3 degrees before the operation and I was told that it might increase again with years although so far I haven't used glasses or lenses again so the money wasn't wasted.

Thanks dear Elen for sharing your experience. Now we have something in common :D
  • Mary, thanks God, I didn't feel anything like that inside my eyes :D :D

Oh, you feel your eyes dry? I hope this is not serious problem. But maybe it is a motive to make the laser :)

Holy cow! First time I hear about so much money for the laser operation. I knew that some years ago it was expensive, but I knew about 2.000 euros. Well, who knows, maybe after some years that you will decide to do it, it will be even more cheaper!

I thank you, Mary, for reading and commenting ^_^

  • Symptoms:

    Foreign body sensation

Oh my! Like an alien? D:

    FaceHugger.gif?width=300

It's cool that now you're feeling great and all the results are so good, but for me... still scares me! :(   I need to spend so many hours in front of a computer 'cause of my job that I don't know if at the end, I could damage my eyes... And they are already becoming too dry 'cause of so many years using contact lenses and the time in front of the computer; I've to hydrate my eyes with eye drops from time to time now...

But despite all the cons, I think it's a cool thing and a very good option, if you have also the money for that. Btw, I find it very cheap! Yeah, still is lot of money but some years ago I was checking the price of this kind of surgery and the prices were hovering around 3.000€ so it's cool to know that it's like half cheap now! :)

Thanks again for sharing your experience with us!

  • Evangelina, you know, the difficult part for me it was after operation, that I couldn't do all these things and I had to be much much careful. I had the help of my mother and that was very useful.

I found the image in Google and it was exactly what I wanted to post. :D But of course it worth it...

I thank you, again, for reading and commenting :)

  • NotAClue, of course, people should think very well about doing a surgery and the risk that they take, especially when it is a very serious surgery, for example heart surgery. It is important also to trust your doctor because as you said many doctors don't inform people with the right way. That's why it is good not take a second opinion from  other doctor. About insurance... this is a big problem... at least in my country, and I hope one day the government will find a serious solution.

I hope too, that everyone have the same results. I know 2-3 persons and they are very pleased. Of course it is normal to be afraid, I was afraid too that moment!

Thank you again too, for reading my blog :))

Onee, you understood that I was tired and I couldn't answer. But now I am good. :) I am glad that my blog is a little useful. Oh, yes, I need to eat carrots, green vegetables and fishes. Thanks for the advice and for your wishes ^_^

Oh, and for the corrections, one more time :)

Thank you very much all of you for your comments. Merry Christmas to all!!
