This is my third blog about philosophy. You may read the previous blogs here and here. This time I am going to talk about something relate to ‘Logic’, the art of thinking. There are few things we need to avoid so we can think in logic and take the right conclusion. These things we need to avoid are called ‘Fallacies’, let’s check it out!!!

1. Dicto simpliciter

An argument based on an unqualified generalization

Example : Training is good for everyone (for someone who has heart disease, training may not good)

 2. Hasty generalization

 3. Post hoc

If there are two events happen in order, doesn’t mean the first event caused the second event.

Example:

 4. Contradictory Premises

This is a bit hard to explain so I’ll use example instead

Premise 1: God is be able to do everything

Premise 2: God creates a heavy stone so He couldn’t lift it

What is your conclusion? My answer is no conclusion :D

 5. Ad misericordiam

Appeal to pity so the argument will be accepted.

6. False analogy

7. Hypothesis contrary to fact

8. Poisoning the well
