F O N T S

Nowadays, we use computers to write (formal) letters, notices, resumes, or numerous posts on facebook, twitter, Instagram, etc. Word software offers a variety of fonts that we can choose from. I always have been curious why people choose a certain font for a certain purpose. For instance, academic papers are favored to be written in Times New Roman (which I hate the most, by the way), and comic strips are written in comic sans. No brainer, right? Look at the image below and you can get my point.

The retro script that no amateur designer can possibly resist.

Ubiquity breeds contempt.

Nothing says 'high school english paper' quite like Times New Roman.

Ruining powerpoint presentations since 1994. I've read somewhere no one uses comic sans unless they are a 7-year-old girl writing a poem about unicorns!

Helvetica's weird, ugly cousin.

The font Zorro would use for his wedding invitation.

The world leader; in unreadable album art and bad tattoos.

Font is used on every movie poster, regardless of genre or time period.

What is your favorite font?

  • Thanks for your lovely comment dear Onee-chan! I like your style!

  • Haha...I like to use Tahoma in formal use recently, though I used to like MaiandraTahoma seems stronger.

But, for fun, I like to use mv boli and segoe print. :)

  • hiya

I liked the analogy, in that case, Times New Roman is a mean b***h. I hate writing papers and the constant demand of delivering them in Times New Roman.

  • What is my fav font??!! My poor head is gonna explode now!! I can't pick just one!! D:

As graphic designer/illustrator, this is a very hard question. Because it depends on its use (Where is gonna be used, What is the 'topic', whether is for a long paragraph or just a headline, whether it's gonna be read on paper or a screen... there are million of different factors)

But I can tell that Helvetica is the most dearest font for all the graphic designers... And Comic Sans the most hated :D

I think the fonts I use more often are Futura, Gill Sans, Verdana, Avant Garde, Euphemia, Lucida Sans, Palatino and many others less popular. But I always say that if you can't decide which font would look good for whatever... then pick Helvetica! :D

Helvetica is like a basic black dress: it fits for almost whatever event/situation.
And if you look around, you'll see that it's everywhere in our daily routine:

...And now, my head is gonna explode. byeee
