He said that I needed to live fiercely.  He expressed that he wanted me to be brave.  I had thought then that this was false since I had always been afraid of many things.  But he had repeatedly told me that I had not known the full measure of my strength.  I had laughed silently at those words.

Then I got married and had children of my own.  He asked me one day if I had found my strength.  I said “I never sleep when my children are sick, I never cease to pray for their safety, I never let a day pass without giving them food, clothing and shelter," I will never let anyone or anything harm them even if it means my death.”  He smiled and said “Now you possess a mother’s courage.”

  • Hi noas!  Indeed I have a unique relationship with my father.  We talk all the time!  We have so many things in common that it's impossible not to get a word out of edgewise with each other! Hahaha!  But I am always grateful for each and every advice I receive from him.  I agree with you, the time we spent with our fathers is always a precious gift.  Thanks for sharing your experience with your father too. :)

  • I wonder if your father is like any fathers in the world, they don't tell you with many words, but rather show you with their actions and gestures. This reminds of my late father. Unlike my mom who loves to partake all kind of advice, whether you want it or not, my late father just shown us the meaning of something profound. Once in a while he told us what he meant. But those rare moments were like precious gifts.

  • Hi Adaline!  How beautiful your flowers are in my wall, I look forward to a nice weekend because I see beauty welcoming me with your lovely thoughts and beautiful flowers!  Thanks! :)

Dear setareh, it depends on perspectives, we look at things based on our experiences but when we look closely we can see that what we end up having the same needs and wants as our parents and our children with us.  God bless your beautiful family as well dear friend! :)

Hi Shoba,  the essential need to learn from each other, from father to daughter, mother to daughter is remains a precious gift that we ought to pass on and share simply for its beautiful and necessary lessons.  Thanks for your nice words. :)

  • Hi Serene,  words come easily when I am inspired and what more inspiration than writing about the person who is a witness to my life and a gift.  I always keep a list of words that capture my interests.  If you like to recall words you try to use them as much as possible. Thanks for your kind words here. :)

Hi Shaila,  it is my pleasure to share this. Thanks for the attention. :)

  • Dear Alice, Very nice heart touching blog. Although we are practicing grammar, you taught us a lovely lesson today. I thank God for your wonderful father and proud of you being a role model to your children and a lovely caring mum.

  • Wow! what an amazing writing! sometimes i think when my kids grow up they wont need me as much as they did when they were small; then i think of myself that i always need my mom even now that I'm married and i have my own kids. God bless you for your kids.

  • Excellent!

You could try to use the 'past simple' tense instead of 'past perfect' in the first paragraph, e.g. 'I thought' instead of 'I had thought' - you could do so even in the reported clause.

Besides, don't omit the comma after the 'said', for example: She said, 'We should help each other.'

    Keep it up!
