She's blooming! What a thing of beauty!

Have you noticed something wonderful today? Perhaps you experienced something beautiful in your surroundings? Whatever it is, here’s a simple expression that native English speakers use when they find something nice and pretty.

An Urban Dictionary contributor defines a ‘thing of beauty’ as something that is favorable, appealing or just plain nice.

It’s true enough that I heard this expression in movies and TV shows oftentimes. From the way it’s been interpreted on the Internet, this group of words can simply be used for something eye-catching or awesome in a positive way. For example, you’re strolling the beach and you saw something really nice, you might utter, ‘What a thing of beauty!’ (Hmm what could it be - any guess?). I would assume the beach itself is already fabulous as it is, but there’d be lots of other beautiful things and creatures around it.

Here are some other examples;

• Shekhar: “Have you heard what our professor said? Our invention was chosen to represent for the incoming robotic competition in Melbourne.

         Raj: “A thing of beauty, indeed!”

• Marshaa noticed a thing of beauty while she was shopping in a souvenir shop in Prague. She didn’t think twice buying it.

• Whenever you’re feeling down in the dumps, just look around you and you’d find a thing of beauty. It’d make you feel better.

I hope you’ve gotten this expression easily since it’s self-explanatory. By the way, here’s a related idiom that you may find interesting- ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’.
