Hi everyone!! I came into English Chat this morning and found it not working. I could reach other rooms but not chat. I wandered into discussions and found I was not the only one having this problem. Investigating further I noticed different writings and comments by other members and a thought came to me. How amazing you all are. How unique. Many know I am an American from the USA. I say this because it was brought to my attention earlier this year that we in the USA are not the only "Americans" as ColdWind puts it. There is North America and South America and although it is my belief that people from the USA have always been known as Americans, I suppose if others on these continents wanted to call themselves American, although I find it misleading, it could be done I suppose. But, that is not my point in writing this blog.
I have never tried to learn a different language. I have experimented a time or so with Arabic but I found my ear not a good one and I moved on without another thought about it. I did realize that the tongue is very unruly!!! It will not always do what it is told!! I found in trying to pronounce words in Arabic my tongue needed to be an acrobat......LOL It was not fond of learning new maneuvers.
I do want to say I AM NO TEACHER. I know not the first thing about teaching. I do try to help with pronunciation and meanings and such but truly feel I am of little or no use to anyone in the actual learning of my native language.
Many times I have been asked the question, "What are doing here"? My answer is always that I am here to help if possible. I have discovered after many years on EC that it was a naïve response surely. So, the next question, logically speaking, would be why have I stayed? I guess to me the question would be.......Why would I not? I have met some of the nicest people in this place. The mix of cultures and customs are so very interesting. I became your student. I marveled at the intelligence of those that come here. I loved your humor and the positive attitudes that you bring each and every day. I read your blogs and they are eye opening to say the least. EC is a learning experience for all that would enter .........yes it was created in the hopes of helping those that needed to learn the English language.......but it is so much more than that. To me, it is a door open to the humanities. It promotes understanding which is something that is sorely needed in this day and time. The world as we know it today is a hot mess, but yet, here we are conversing and talking with one another and learning that we all have much in common, where once it was thought only differences. We laugh together and sometimes we cry together. We feel when someone is hurting. We congratulate when there is accomplishment. We speak plainly when someone offends us.....LOL
So much talent walks through these doors. We each bring to the table a uniqueness that one cannot find just anywhere. I will always appreciate what I have found in EC and the one saying comes to mind......it is possible for an old dog to learn new tricks..........and I am blessed because of it........Have a great day!!!.......be safe and take care........and I will see you in chat........inshallah.

Your doing an awesome job Paula...
Being a chat mod is not easy...needs patience, dedication humor and wit too:))
What a well-written blog, Paula! Thank you for looking on the bright side and for sharing your positive experiences about MyEC. I hope our members' differences and cultural clashes would make you a better person and become more open-minded as you're now embarking as our new moderator. Wishing you the all the best! :)
That's not much of a burn now, is it? I love Professor Frink. He's so vanilla.
"I am trying to improve my speaking English, would you like to be my learning partner?? I use skype id avrao317
Dear Paula, I never had the opportunity to talk personally with you. Sometimes I could see you chatting in the main room, that's all. I just want to say, it's very important for us learners to have native English speakers like you here on MyEC, even if they are no teachers. Every single help to improve our English skilles is welcome.
I agree with you, the blogs, written by members from many different countries are very interesting and instructive. It's as if we can have a view through a window into the life of others. We experience how they dream, hope, think, work and act. It shows us that we are equal, there is more what we have in common than that what separates us.
Thanks for your nice words.
Well Paula...I am not in the chatroom daily but let me say that it used to be totally different some years ago...so I wonder ... you see it like this as it turned to sth totally inactive and boring...oopsss... Humanity? I witnessed so many silly fights there that I am not sure, if you really talk about EC chatroom ;D
