Hello friends, Eid al-Adha (the festival of great sacrifice) is near.
This year Eid will fall on 16-11-2010(10th day of the 12th and the last Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah of the lunar Islamic calendar). What is Eid al-Adha ?Eid al-Adha is a great religious holiday, celebrated by Muslims across the world, to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son(his only son at that time) Isma'il (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to God, but instead was able to sacrifice a ram(by God's command).
So in the memory of that great sacrifice, each affluent Muslim family, around the world, will sacrifice a ram/sheep/goat/cow/camel/buffalo by slaughter, making it halal(meat from animals that have been killed according to Muslim law). After the sacrifice, meat would be divided into three equal parts, to distribute.-One part (1/3rd of all meat) goes to relatives, friends and neighbors.-One part (1/3rd of all meat) goes to poor and needy.-One part(1/3rd of all meat) goes to family, who sacrifice the animal. The Eid al-Adha celebrations start soon after the Muslim perform the Hajj (the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims from across the world). Muslims continue to celebrate the Eid al-Adha for whole 3 days.
This feast reflects that all muslims live in one community and rich one takes care of poor one :) - the advantage of islam,, PROUD to be A MUSLIM... happy adha feast to u all :)
This is the second best day after Idul Fitri. All the Moslems worldwide will feel the greatest blessing of Allah SWT. Meanwhile, the people who are having pilgrimage will be doing "wukuf" in Arafah at the moment and the others will be surrounded by joy in a great feast, including me, of course, hahaha. What a nice blog, dear..
Happy Idul Adha to you, Nida! May Allah SWT is always with us
I always greet it with joy, a tradition in my family eat together with typical dishes, satay* and ketupat food (made from rice that has been wrapped in a woven palm leaf pouch and boiled.) ... Mmmmm
