Don’t Waste Your Opportunity

For most of us, our biggest sin is taking things for granted.I’m as guilty as anyone else: I wake up and rush into online work or reading, forgetting to appreciate what a miracle this new day is. I’m alive! I’ve been given another amazing day, full of opportunities, and that is truly breath-taking.I’m human, with a body and a conscious mind … and what an opportunity that is! We take this for granted, but if someone came up to you and said, “Hey, I can give you the power to make 10 people’s lives better every day of your life” and they could prove beyond a doubt they’re telling the truth … would we just pass this opportunity up without thought, and go to our favorite online social network to see what updates we’ve missed? That would be a huge missed opportunity, and that’s exactly what we’re doing each day we pass up the opportunity of being human without thought. What kind of opportunities does being human bring us?How about the opportunity to experience the wonders of the world, each moment bringing with it an overwhelming amount of experience that we can soak up?How about the opportunity to investigate, explore, learn, discover, invent, create, inform, play, imagine, and build? How about the opportunity to connect deeply with another human? How about the opportunity to care, to lessen the suffering of others, to not participate in the suffering of animals, to make lives better? How about the opportunity to practice mindfulness and appreciate all that’s in front of us?How about the opportunity to create your own opportunities, ones that I can’t imagine? What does this moment offer you that you are passing by without thought? Are you willing to make the most of the opportunities of this moment, of being human?Www.zenhabits.com

  • Dear Sima, what a great piece of writing with a wonderful lesson. Thanks for sharing. I hope never to lose an opportunity because times is going so fast.
  • Thank you for the opportunity to read such a thoughtful blog!

  • its very nice to think beyond our own self. It very appreciating if implemented in our life.............I call it SELF-REALIZATION.

  • Our baby Sima has turned into a beautiful grown up lady.  This blog of yours depicts a phenomenal change in your life.  And what a great leap of improvement!  Your English has a new luster, my dear!

I couldn't believe that the old Sima has written something like this.  Anyway, I am very grateful for this wonderful reminder.  Every opportunity (great or small) is always at hand.  We don't have to go very far just to seek it.  What your eyes can see within your sight and what your hands can touch within your reach, that is opportunity.

Turn your idle moment into something productive and you won't have regrets about wasting your time that way.

In EC, every opportunity for us to improve our English is given.  We should utilize it, grab it and take advantage of it.

In EC, also, every opportunity to help others is open.  Give it, let the needy feel they are helped.  Help in the best possible way you can.  By helping them achieve a certain degree of their English improvement, you are spreading hope, inspiration, motivation and encouragement to continue what they have started when entered EC.

Great thanks to your great blog, Sima.  Welcome back after such a long time of dead silence.

  • I can't help but push the 'like" button! It's a wonderful blog! We tend to live our lives as if we will live forever and we take so many things for granted and so many missed opportunities that we leave behind so many "ifs" in our wake. "If I had spent more time with her...If I had called.." I have learned this lesson the hard way when I lost someone dear and I am left with a lot of remorse and now I intend not to leave any stone unturned in facing opportunities.  Thank you for reminding us of this valuable truth.! :)
