Does wathcing English movies help us to improve our English?

As we know English is the most common language uesd to communicate with people around the world. Some people have to study it to go to college and university, others just learn it to be able to understand the English so that they can travel to any place and share their thoughts, ideas and knowledge easily.We also know that many people can read and understand it but unable to speak fluently and write their thoughts clearly. Many language scientists and teachers have been doing research on how to build a effective tool for everyone to learn other languages easily. For right handed people the language center is Left Brain and for left handed its right brain. So they examined right or left brain of volunteers with the help of PET scanning and divided them into different groups .Those candidates who just watched movie without active participation for several weeks could not improve speaking skill significantly. The other group who wathced same movie several times improved speaking skill a little bit more. But those participants who were active in writing and speaking with others improved their skills very significantly. The fact that every participant's brain activity examined by PET scanning at the end of experiment was equal. So learning language, probably, depends on individual basis rather than the activity of our brain. It's really hard for most of the people with age above 25 years to learn new things and incorporate and use it rapidly. Perhaps, our neuronal system in brain is very rigid to learn new things.But once it gets many repetition or hard work , it gets molded to any shape to receive the new things.

The source of information is from different website and reasearch articles, and there is no common conclusion from them. I just made it my version of conclusion. What is your opinion aout it???

I wonder if I focus on a dialog till understanding or use variety of listening. Actually, I do both of them but not sure which one takes me to the result as soon as.

I would like to share my views on this item since I am teaching English now. It will surely help students a lot to learn new things, idioms and other stuffs.
But we learn through practice..If these words were not put into practice still learning is not useful as if u have wasted lots of time and efforts.

I think watching movies is good to enhance your listening level but always delete subtitles because its make you focus on reading then you forged listening

i usually let my students watch movie, on one hand, they are familiar with the pronounciation and intonation, on the other hand, they can also have the knowledge of foreign culture. i think movies have more advantages than disadvantages in english learning.

Watching English movies can be helpful - it depends. When you pay attention to the English language used in a movie, you could learn much and improve your English skills, especially speaking and listening. It can be helpful to your writing, too. Sometimes we write in a more casual way when we don't need to be formal and write just as we speak it in daily life.
But it taks time and effort to watch movies and learn - it may not be so easy a job. But if you really want to learn and improve, it's worth all your effort.

I learned academic English and I can tell you that it is totally diffrent from the one seen or spoken on tv and I feel ashamed when one of my family members askes me what does that mean? and if I tell him I don't kwow he simply laughs at me astonished!!!
