From the day I started to learn English, I been told this phrase "THINK IN ENGLISH" so many times. And to be honest I never understood it.

As a learner of second language when I try to say something in English I do it naturally by this way :1. I think about it in my own language. 2.  I translate it to English in my mind. 3. Finally I say it.

It's a quite complicated process. That's what  make me wonder "Does English people have different brains than us ? " I'm not looking for answer to this question - unless it's true!!!.

What I am really looking to be answered is " How can you help me to start thinking in English?"

  • Allah(God)says in Quoran:"And one of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your tongues and colors; most surely there are signs in this for the learned".

  • Welcome; Shabeen

  • Dear Noorany. I absolutely agree with you by more practice and of hard work we will be as good as natives.

    Thank you

  • S.Selvakumar. I do know English is a language not a knowledge. And I agree with you that we need to learn more English language so we can communicate better.
    Thank you

Scarlett. Thank you for your advice I will try to do it.

  • Dear Omer...

First you should understand one thing...

ENGLISH IS A LANGUAGE AND NOT A KNOWLEDGE...

WE NEED A LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ALL THE PEOPLE THOUGHT OUT THE WORLD  SINCE ENGLISH IS BEING USED UNIVERSALLY... WE STARTED LEARNING THE SAME..

IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT ENGLISH KNOWING PERSON HAS NOT DIFFERENT/BRILLIANT BRAINS...

OUR BRAINS ARE SO DIFFERENT BUT WE ARE UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE PROPERLY THROUGH ENGLISH LANGUAGE... THAT WE NEED TO LEARN...

  • Hello Omer,

In my opinion, "Thinking in English" means just think in English itself :).

Well, I'm serious indeed. What you should do just try to auto-think in English like a baby geting to know a language, just force your brain make an English word, build an English sentence and don't try to translate it, just to get familiar with it day by day... I'm doing it and it works.

I would like to share with you Ha's Blog : "Thinking in English", she is one of MyEC member who used to tell us some helpful tips about this question on her blog post, I find it useful and it may help you to answer yourself.

  • Dear Sima, what I really looking for is an answer and when I'll have it then I'll answer you.
