Do you also suffer with dental phobia?

I can’t see what the dentist is doing in my mouth. Only I can see is scary-looking instruments and chairs. And there is also the horrible high-pitched noise it makes. Then the inevitable pain may be caused by having a needle stuck in my mouth. All above things always well up on my mind before I decide to go to the dentist each time. Do you have similar feeling as mine?

The night before yesterday, one of my molars, wisdom tooth, is like an eruptive volcano disordered me the whole night. The severe toothache really made me irritable and almost out of control. I did wish the tooth was not mine on that time. So, I had no choice but to go the dentist yesterday though I was so terrified of it. The dentist checked and scanned my teeth by equipment first and then told me that a cavity which is like a big oceanic trench has been found in the tooth that made me painful. He said if I keep ignoring it and don’t pull it out, it would be like a walking bomb installing in my mouth, and I would never know when it will bomb again. In order not to suffer from this kind of terrible pain, I took his advice and then took out my wisdom tooth finally. (Here I omitted the process of how my tooth was treated because this is another dreadful experience.) The dentist exhorted that the best way to prevent dental problems is to take good care of your own teeth. Brush your teeth after eating, and more importantly, use dental floss after every meal. A lot of food usually gets trapped between teeth. Flossing is the most effective way to clean the food out. Besides the routine checkup every three to six months, if you feel any discomfort, heat sensitivity or even if you don't have pain, but just bleeding gums or swelling, you should still go to the dentist.

Do you have any kind of good or horrible experience of going to the dentist? I will appreciate it if you would like to share it with us, and I hope your teeth are healthy and could enjoy the food you like by your real teeth.

Going to the dentist is not all bad for me. After I came back home, I checked the dictionary and found some of the names related to the tooth I never learned it before. I tried to draw a picture of a tooth accordingly so as to help memorize the new words at the same time. Hope it would be useful for you too.

  • hmm sounds good this new method, but now we need to go to de dentis with other person, because if you are ZZZzz zzz , watch out! with the bad doctors. :)

  • I saw it on a newspaper. Perhaps it is now still on experiment. Then news didn't tell how it could be, but it could be a new trend in the future. Thanks for the comment, Poky.

  • Exactly,Lucy. It's a nightmare to go to the dentist for most of people, especially its high-pitched noise. Some clinics now have created a new method, which allows patients to have a sleep while diagnosing.

After patients wake up, the cure is also finished. That would be a good news for those who are scared of the dentist. Thanks for your dropping by.

  • Yes, I have and it is enormous. I am afraid that the dentist and when it is necessary to go cleaning and someone before me I have to wait outside the clinic, because I can not heard sound of the cleaning machine, my nerve is very tense and I can not resist the dentist do something in my mouth.
However, now I'm reading what I wrote sounds funny, but is true, every six months  I have a nightmare in day time.

  • Hello Hardi,

Wow.. it's really costs an arm and a leg to visit a dentist in your country. We have to pay about 2.5~3 Euro if you do a regular checkup or remove out your teeth here. If you want to make a fake tooth, the charge will depend on what kind of material and what character of the tooth you need. And the governemt will make some subsidization when those who need to be helped.

Finding a good, patient and moral dentiest seems not very easy but it's very important for our teeth and of course our wallet too. When the cure is appropriate, effective and good for our teeth, I would not mind the price with a little expensive.  Because once the teeth were ruined by an unsuitable dentist, we can not call back our real teeth anymore.

Hope both of our teeth could be protected and used properly until we are very old. ^_^

Thanks a lot for telling me about the story about teeth in your country and dentist's secret.

  • It's amazing that teeth always start to ache at Friday. :P

Estonian national health insurance, doesn't bay for dentist. There can have free first aid for tooth, only in cases of emergency, when it's life threating situation

Visiting a dentist have usually been about 40 to 60 €(euro) for me. And If there's need to cure under teeth.. I mean to remove the nerve, (I think it might be called the cure of root) it may cost about 200€ or maybe even more to completely cure that teeth.

Actually most of those 7 dead teeth, that I had nerves removed, got to so bad situation since I visited not so good dentist previously. She probably didn't remove all the cavity. So all the teeth she repaired started to hurt after about a half a year latter. It was really expensive experience to me.

Latter, when I tried to search that dentist's name from Internet to see, if someone else have had similar experiences with her. The only thing I found out, was that she was enlisted in a political party.. It was the same party where our current prime minister belongs. That party represent rich people only. They don't care of boors. So I wasn't surprised, she didn't do good job someone involved to politic can't be good person. :P

Actually, I think, that most of boor people here don't have teeth, because it's a luxury to have them. :P

My oldest brother probably have no teeth left, since he says dentists are bastards. And don't go to dentist easily.

People sometime speculate, that they repair teeth poorly, in order that you would have to come back very soon and they could make more money. I have actually heard so often, how the teeth repaired, have started to hurt after some month and then expensive teeth's root cure is needed. But that's usually really only when repaired in small dentist offices, that are cheaper to visit. It seems they try to get customers with cheaper price, but it's actually impossible to cure a teeth sufficiently so cheap.

  • Hello Hardi,

It was really awful that you couldn't find any dentists on weekend. I sympathize with your case.

My case also happened last Friday. Thankfully, here some of the dentists are still open on weekend,

so my toothache was given some relief. Is it very expensive to go to the dentist in your country? Owing to the National Health Insurance, people here only should pay not much.

If the nerve of your teeth are still there, you would probably get hurt again once the cavities keep going insdie deeply. So, checkup our teeth regularly and look after them are essential.

I agree with you. No need to worry too much as long as you find a recognized dentist or a kind and patient dentist who will listen to you.  And I'm sure the power of criticism cannot be neglected.

Thanks so much for sharing your precious experience here though it may not be a nice memory and your opinion. :)

  • Hi Martin,

That means you take good care of your teeth or you may inherit good gene from your parents.  Congratulations! I hope pulling one tooth out would reward me a calm life. Thank you for the concern and comment. :)

  • You drew it! Well done. :)

I have had experienced terrifying tooth aches too. The worst case, was when it started at week end and all dentists had day off. I couldn't sleep at all, watched tv and eating acetylsalicylic acid against the pain.. It helped only little and for short time.. like for 2 hours I think. :P But I'm not afraid of dentist. Only my wallet is. Going to dentist, is much more painful for my bank account, than to my self. They usually inject painkiller before doing anything. So it's not so bad..

I have already at least 6 or 7 dead tooth in mouth. Killed by dentist(the part you labeled as pulp on picture, have been removed ,or rather replaced with some other stuff, or filling) And one dooth was also pulled out too, when I was 19.. I stupidly let it pulled out then, since repairing would have been very expensive for me at that time.. It didn't hurt. It was already dead, I think. But it got a big hole, the filling that it had previously. Fell out and I was afraid, that it might start to hurt again.. I wish I still have that tooth too. T_T It was a big tooth at back town.

Well, anyways, there's no need to be afraid qualified good dentist. But better stay away from cheaper ones. Better go to a recognized dentist even when it's little expensive.

Recognized dentist from private clinic, can't be carefree and make bad job, since she/he won't know how few, or how many friends I may have in facebook. :P
