Do-Do-Don't B-B-Be a Jerk!

Scene:

A bunch of kids are playing during recess; some are hanging upside-down on the monkey bars. Some are "talking"...

"Hey, let's talk about our favorite animals." Nikki.

"My favorite animal is a pony." Dana.

"Bunnies." Jordan.

"A horse!" Bobby.

"Poo-Poo-Poo Poodle.", said Little Mikey.

"Mikey said, 'Poo'! Mikey said, 'Poo'!" Laughter...

I'm not gonna give you the excruciating details on what causes stuttering and how it is cured or whatever. I'm not an expert, fellas. However, my heart goes to all Mikey's and future Michael's out there who'll enter the scary world of adulthood with the shattered pieces of their remnant confidence.

Some old wives' tales on stuttering:

• People who stutter are less intelligent or capable.

What the fudge?

• Forcing a left-handed child to become right-handed causes stuttering.

I remember Mrs. Patterson, our - elderly - neighbor, used to say, "Make A738a use the spoon, crayons, and whatnot with her right hand. A lefty? That's just not normal!" Mom would just nod and the moment Mrs. Patterson would leave to feed her legion of cats, she'd start laughing, I mean, tears streaming down her face. By the way, what do ya mean "not normal", Mrs Patterson? I'm normal... at least I think I am! Hmph!

• People stutter because they are nervous.

Right...¬¬

• Stuttering is a psychological disorder.

Come oooonnnnnnn! >:(

  • Dear Evangelina,

Couldn't agree more. Hope I make a difference. This is one of those things that you see every day, ya know? I feel like I owe it to those who had a traumatic childhood because of stuttering or even as adults they are still suffering.

    Thanks for your kind words.

  • Poke fun at people? My sweet Onee? Impossible! Sure it was peer pressure. :)
    Thank you. You too, dearie
  • Dearest Aseventhreeeighta,,

I have a friend who stutters all her life. But, to be proud, she is very intelligent as she took Physics Engineering in Institute Technology. I have to admit that she's more intelligent than me... I was just a bit lazy. :p

She's graduated with a very good result. And now she's working well in that Institute.

Once, I ever made fun of stuttering people with another friends, but remembering her, I never do that again.. Oh, never..

We must be grateful for what we have, and never tease people who have inabilities.

Thank you for the good blog, again. I learn some new words here. Happy Holiday, dearest. ^_^

  • Um... thank you, Seeker.

  • "I think people should understand, others’ predicaments, instead of laughing, help them build confidence so next time they will be an effective speaker."

  • The nerve! How dare he! Well, not gonna lie, Fr@nk. That's genius!

  • Less intelligent? Seriously? Haha! I’m eating stutter for breakfast. This happens when a person wasn't prepared for what he is going to say, or if he doesn’t know what to say exactly. However, there are times that even though you know what to say, you memorize almost verbatim, when the jitter hits you, you’ll be like.. “ahh…ahh..aahh…I.. don..don’t..kno..knowww”. I think people should understand, others’ predicaments, instead of laughing, help them build confidence so next time they will be an effective speaker. My heart goes with them too.
