This Blog on "Diwali" am writing for the comments of Mickey and Sima on "Happy Diwali" Blog....
Diwali is regarded as one of the most important festival of the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated across the nation with great pomp and excitement. The festival is mainly associated with lights as it is called the festival of light. On the day of the festival diyas (small clay lamps) are lit in everybody 's home irrespective of their social status. The name Diwali signifies 'rows of lighted lamps '. Diwali is a five-day festival, beginning on the 15th day of the Hindu calendar month of Kartika (Ashwin) - October & November month of English Calendar.
Fire crackers are burst because it is believed that it drives away evil spirits. During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends. Sweets means dont imagine as something small...My stomach is bloated with sweets now,,,,
Though we have more festivals here in India, this Diwali is considered as the Topmost and celebrated by all irrespective of Religion.
Workers are paid "Bonus" of atleast one month Salary additionally. All Shopping Malls, Street Shops, Complex, everywhere huge crowd will be there for Purchasing.
Many New Films (movies) will be released during this day, and we couldnt even think of getting tickets for the show on the first day.
In South, the celebrations will be more in the house where newly wedded couples are there. Since, it is the First Diwali for the new couples, many rituals will be performed and cash and Gold will be offered to the bridegroom from the Bride's side.
You wont even believe how much People will spend on this Fire Crackers. All types of, designs of Fire Crackers can be seen. Since Today is Diwali, I can see now, the sky is filled with Lights.

I read in a Newspaper that "US Senators John Cornyn and Mark R Warner, co-chairs of Senate’s bipartisan India Caucus, announced as they would introduced a bipartisan resolution in the Congress to recognise the religious and historical significance of Diwali. The resolution honours an important tradition of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains in the flourishing Indian-American community in the US as well as those of our partners in India, they said."

Fantastic! This post is so informative. I really enjoy learning about this festive holiday. I also love Indian sweets and food. You would be proud of me. Last night I learned how to make Indian roti! My neighbour made some traditional chicken curry to share, and she asked if we wanted roti or rice to go with it. I asked for roti and a lesson! It was very delicious.
Here is my son's rangoli for Diwali. After he drew it he asked, "Are you going to share it with EnglishClub?" Here is mine. Here is my neighbour's.

So Nice of you remembering that song.....Thats one of my Favourite Hindi song....and it goes as "Le jayenge, Le jayenge, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le jayenge"....Here, Dilwale means Lover...and u were 100% right on ur Guessing....Dilwale and Diwali seems similar while pronouncing and thats the reason u guessed like that.....But I am so glad to know that u were able to correlate that song to this....U have really got a good memory power.....Keep it up, Sis...
