Listen to News: Meteor Explodes Over Russia ~ 19 February 2013
Discussion Question: Scientists believe that this type of event happens about once every 100 years. Does a rare ocurrence like this justify the building of early warning systems from space?
Any way of preventing major damages to us is always welcome in advance, mainly when it comes to the catastrophic results of big asteroids over the Earth's surface seen in the example of the one that crossed the Russian sky in February this year letting a bunch of injured inhabitants that part of planet.
Although the asteroid that fallen out in Russia cannot be related to the other one that passed extremely close from the Earth's crost, I think the space is like a mathematic probability, we will always have a tiny probability to be reached any time everywhere by "monster asteroids", so, the best to do is we protect ourselves through the most modern technological methods at hand, before we can be caught by surprise.
As far as I know, the prevention against celestial corps at potential risk to damage our planet is already made and monitored by the Nasa's scientists.
The science is for the man uses it to prevent disastrous consequences , I really believe in a science that works on for us in a complete preventive way.
