When I was a child, history was not my strong point and never had high marks, however in my adulthood it's becoming so interesting. Curious, right? :D at least never is too late to learn.Well, if I could travel back in time I'd choose the year 1492. In this year happened not only the event I guess all we know but also the expulsion of Jews and Arabics in Spain. This time was turbulent and so rough here and I think that laws which were settled in this year paved the way to the future of the country, for the good, bad and worse things.Back to the point and to the second question of the challenge, I'd like to meet to the Catholic Monarchs, who else? :D They were the monarchs who succeeded in the union of the Spanish kingdoms, even for sixty years the Iberian peninsula, and more than a question, I'd rather make them a suggestion; not to decree the expulsion of non Catholics. It's proved that not only Jews and Christians lived in sweet harmony in the prosperous city of Toledo but also Arabics, actually all of us as a society had benefits from this coexistence in the fields of physics, mathematics, astronomy... Even so, more than five hundred years later we're proud of such cultural inheritance.I wonder what'd have happened if they had accepted my proposal. I bet all you have heard of the butterfly effect, right? Haha... who knows!Anyway hypothesis are also allowed in replies :D
C'mon Mary! Don't be even more crazy if possible hahaha... I've already met in real an Ec-land lady and the only thing I missed was being a bit more fluent in English, you know, remarkable Spanish accent :D so it wouldn't be a handicap with you.
In my defense I will say that it was not planned, I departed from Santander and decided stretch my legs in your place but had no a fast way to contact you.
Oh, I've already listened to the podcast (in two parts btw) I wish I've had a history teacher like yhis woman, how cool way of talking about history! Well I think she goes a bit far with Fernando III :D
Oh!! You came to my city and you didn't tell me!! D:
How dare you to come incognito! You're the worst :(( I got 2 conclusions there: 1) You're afraid to meet the awesome gurl of EC-Land, OR: 2) You're afraid to feel ashamed in your meeting with the awesome but also silly/crazy gurl of EC-Land XD In any case, I'm not sure if I'll forgive this 'offense'...
Btw, yeah Vaughan is kind of boring... better change to Miss Nieves Concostrina, you won't regret it ;)
Wow... my neighbor! What a complete reply you wrote. Good!
Surely I,d have pressed 'back to present time' button after seeing the queen Isabel expression when hearing my suggestion.
First of all, thank you for clarify this term, actually I didn't use it thinking that it could be easier to understand here but now I see it's even more confusing and I should have explained it in the writing but didn't want the blog looked boring.
Of course we have an amazing cultural inheritance and it's really sad that many of us don't appreciate it, maybe we're too focused on our own ego, on politics issues, on complaining about everything... I like hearing opinions of this country from foreigners or tourists, once I read that Spain is the union of several smaller kingdoms and so it is, I have the feeling that they appreciate better than ourselves the cultural diversity.
Just two weeks ago from today I was on a trip, in my way back I stooped by your city and stayed in a terrace to have a coffee by the most emblematic monument there, surely you overlook it but for those who are not used to see it everyday it's admirable. If stones could speak... :D No kidding it's an excellent city and ideal for living to my view.
I've just checked your links, I promise to listening tonight when going to bed although I don't promise to hear everything before falling asleep. Now I sometimes listen to similar podcasts while biking. I'll change to Cadena Ser instead of the boring Vaughan haha...
Thanks so much for your time. It's not been in vain.
The event I referred was the discovery of America since I believe it's more well known by members here. I see You're well up on Spanish history.
That's also a very good question. Surely thirst for conquest. Maybe humans hasn't changed a lot since then, only methods.
When I first watched 'Avarar' I couldn't help thinking of that event also.
Thank you again for your correction. It is appreciated :)
By the way, haven't you ever thought that we might make them behaving too capricious? this is related to your previous comment :D
mhm nice suggestion for the Queen Isabel, but I'm afraid her reply to you could have been like the Queen of Hearts' pet word: "Get off with his head!" :D
I agree we got an incredible cultural inheritance that endures today and we can even notice in our vocabulary. I don't know what'd have happened if the Spanish Kingdom wouldn't have kicked out the asses of so many moriscos (probably just that we'd be living today in a country with 2 main religions instead of 1) but it's important to remember and learn from our history for not to repeat again the same disasters.
Cool blog Estanis, just lemme remind you a lil thing: When you say 'Arabics', actually you should say 'Moriscos'. The Spanish kindom kicked the asses of ppl who had lived in Spain for 800 years, so... they weren't 'arabs' anymore, but spaniards with muslim religion :)
I know even today we made a mess trying to figure out the difference betweet 'arab', 'muslim', 'mudéjar', 'morisco'... But the meaning of some words are important if we wanna learn from the history and our mistakes :))
Btw, if you like history, I suggest you to listening to the podcasts by Nieves Concostrina in La Cadena Ser. She's awesome! I've learnt lot of stuff thanks to her (more than in school haha) and she explains lot of 'complicated' history events in a very funny way :)
Here you can listening to her podcast about this topic, and her easy explanation of the differences between these spanish muslims, mudéjares and moriscos --right at the begining of the audio:
Yeah... good old times haha... and like every old empire in the history of the world, it was ruined from the inside. Perhaps for the human nature? Justice? Internal burnout? Whatever...
The brain drain is always a big loss where it's not appreciated.

It's gratifying hearing that from fluent or native speakers.
Yes to me this was an interesting period of the history, maybe that's why I chose it for the challenge.
...aaaand as always too, so happy to see your pic and nick here. This time even more special :p I mean it.
The brain drain is always a big loss where it's not appreciated.
Thank you my friend for your reply ;)
