Hi all!!!  I tried to write and post this last night.....but somehow it would not post.....so I am going to try again!!!  If at first you don't succeed....try try again......right???....LOL

There are so many words in the English language that are confusing.......I ran into this yesterday with the words capital, and capitol.  So I thought maybe this can create a helpful blog.  I will write so many and then in a day or two add to....and so on.  I hope it helps and clears some misunderstandings up for you!!! It might even add to your vocabulary....which would be a win win!!! HUGGGGGGGGG

(1) accent - distinctive manner of oral expression.  "I could not understand the man's words due to his accent".

(1b) ascent - A movement upward.  "We cheered as we watched the ascent of the hot air balloon".

(1c) assent - agreement with a statement or proposal to do something.  "Eagerly I gave my assent".

(2) a while - a period of time.  "He said he would be home in a while".

(2b) awhile - a short period of time.  "George said he would be home awhile".

(note:  a while usually follows a preposition such as in or for) (awhile means George will be home for just a short time.)  So the meaning is altered a bit.

(3) accept - to admit or approve; to receive.  "Sarah decided to accept the board's decision".  "Matthew will accept the award".

(3b) except - not including; other than.  "Seth had his choice of colors, except the orange which was out of stock".  "I didn't tell him anything, except I needed the money".

(4) access - to gain entry; the right to enter.  "Jane had access to all classified files".

"Curtis had to access the shed to retrieve the shovel".

(4b) excess - an amount of something that is more than necessary, permitted, or desirable.  "Are you suffering from an excess of stress in your life"?  "Despite the excess workload Sue preformed well".

(5) acclimation - adaptation to a new climate (a new temperature or altitude or environment)  "The pandas are going through acclimation in their new home".

(5b) acclamation - enthusiastic approval.  "The book met with modest acclamation".

(6) acumen - keenness and depth of perception.  "Jason had amazing business acumen"

(6b) acuity - the ability to see, hear or understand something easily.  "He argued with great acuity".
