~ Chpt 28 : Are we friends?

i'm curious about something..

How are we categorise our friendship here at EC?

Are we a friends ~ friends that we share our thought, feelings and correspondence through email, skype facebook or here at english club.

or

Just online acquaintance  ~ we talked for a while or who we can lie with many things with reason that person don't know the real you or I don't care..because it is just a online web

So I wonder to a person who known me, chat with me, share their thought with me

Are we friends or just online acquaintance..

  • Hello Fizzy,
Thanks for being honest on this. I have to be honest with you too, that I was once novice on this site so I was disheartened so many times because, we are human beings. However, being here for a long period still do not make me an expert in handling all of the changes taking place on this site so, I still get downhearted from time to time. Just stick to your goal which is learning English, and (if you want to find a friend) you will find good friends too don't worry. Maybe this will depend on your standard, as to what kind of friend you want. True friendship will not develop overnight. And, always keep in mind that, "Living is a continuous way of learning."
    Enjoy learning with us.
    Good luck!
    your friend,
    -Lynne-
  • Well, Fizzy, even though the main goal here is to learn English, I think many people are also interested in making friends. And of course, it is disappointing to find out that someone you are trying to establish a relationship with is just making all up.

It's impossible to know what is in someone's heart, but you can feel people's reaction while you're chatting. That's what I try to do. There is an expression in English: "to click right away", that means to get along well immediately. If you are chatting and you feel that kind of "click", you may be really close to a nice penpal. Otherwise, just let it go. Don't let these kind of people ruin your time here.

  • Thanks valeria, ryszard, hardi, rafal, rodi, atika and lynne

thanks for great comment.. I know that we are here to learn english.. but sometimes i couldn’t help myself to feels disappointment when found out that some conversation are based on lies…

perhaps I think too much about it.. hehehe (^-^)?

  • Very nice topic. I guess, it's only you who can answer that question because, each of us has his/her own way of understanding things. Just bear in mind that we are all here to learn English. In my opinion, respect is important as we are all human here.

    Take care.

  • I think ,,if we decide or accept to talk to someone ,to communicate ,so better to do it honestely ,we are not chatting to lie on each others ,,but to exchange some ideas, learn from each others, discover things, it is a human instinct to communicate .

It is true that lot of persons hide their reel profiles, maybe there is a reason for that, but there is no reason not to be honest .

Frienship has only one meaning, but different interpretations. We hope that any relation ,,virtual or reel will be based on respect and consideration.

Friendship is something wonderful ,but for those who know the reel sens .

    Thank you Fizzy ,,nice topic.

  • Depends how often you communicate with them and how much time you spend online. For a person who spend most of day online the people he meet there may be more friends than people he meets offline.

I suppose that a person who never had any human contact, might consider even imaginary characters from book, or movie as his friends.. wouldn't he?

A hungry person wouldn't be as picky as someone whose stomach is full of all good and better stuff..

  • Hi, Fizzy

Well, I guess virtual friendship is always food for thought... From my point of view, it depends how often you get in touch with that person and how comfortable you feel when you communicate.

Of course it's different from a "real-life" friendship, but it may happen that you meet that person you get along very well with. Why not consider her a friend? In other words, it depends on your own point of view.
