December is the month of the 'memorable' Christmas meals in Spain and Europe and companies use to arrange dinners where, for some hours, coworkers share a different ambient far from the daily work issues and routine. Many think that this is a parenthesis in our laboral relactionship and we can act or do things we never do in the workplace, to some extent it's true but here it doesn't work the saying "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"Since I've attended to several business meals, I'd like to share some tips not to be embarrassed the next day :)1. Don't drink too much.I know. It's difficult. But before asking for another whisky, remember you don't want to embrace your mate or boss telling her / him that is so pleasant, nice, kind, cool... and you don't wanna finish in the toilet vomiting while mates taking selfies with you.2. Don't talk to your boss about work. What for? Will you tell him that you've learned a lot with him? That your mate is so lazy and you always help him? That the company has improved since he hired you? Don't be ingenuous and let it be.This point is highly relevant if you didn't pass number 1.3. Do not dance.Yes. Most of the times the party goes on in a disco, and all because you didn't pay attention to number 1. Well, if you couldn't help finish here, at least don't loose your dignity dancing in front of your boss or the other way around, with some of your subordinates. Even more, it's highly likely to look accidentally to the cleavage or the arse of your colleague and you'll notice that when someone show the photo at the workplace. You will regret tomorrow.4. Never ever flirt.O.K. you raised number 3 I understand, but I assure you #4 can be one of the most stupid things you may do in your life.Since we spend much time together at work, It's normal that we get along with someone but this is not the best moment to try. Anyway, if you're madly in love tonight then let yourself go. Why not, go for your dessert to finish off the task, but remember it's your responsibility. Or you aren't able to remember at this point? If so, hmmm... good luck!Well, to sum up please do not mention anything the next day. You'll go to work with a terrible hangover since you ignored all my points. You'll exchange uneasy glances and for some days it will be hard to you to speak to the colleague who took you to your house and watched how you tried unsuccessfully open the door of your house with the car keys. Do not say a word. It never happened.Come on! This is not the end of the world. You have a whole year ahead till the next event :D
Thank you for your reply and sharing your point of view.
I think I wrote this from a certain degree of negative view but I wanted to be give it a touch of fun :)
Just last night we attended to our dinner between colleagues and nothing about mentioned above happened haha... well, we did dance at the end and drunk a little but everything was perfect finally :D
I believe it's a good occasion to maintain close links and keep a good feeling among colleagues who see each other almost every day. As you said, it's important an harmonious coexistence.
Thanks again for reading. Something tells me you're good at your job :D
Sir Estanis, better not to do anything above or just stay at home as I most probably do every year when I was in the Philippines. But let me note, that if I can't prevent that dinner with my boss, I'll make sure that we're going out as a group. Usually, it's nothing new to me because my former boss loves to treat us then, every closed deal and new client opportunities he'll end up calling us one by one to meet him down the road.
Christmas dinner would be like exchange gifts, raffle, bonuses and grocery items. Most of those times, I'm really looking forward to going home early as I know how traffic it is traveling that season.
Since I started working, and my boss now is my third boss , all of them are boys so as much as possible I don't like to be than close to them, I'm avoiding such dinners if possible, but to maintain the harmonious relationship I can allow once in a while. Thank you, this is helpful and timely.
Yes, somehow it's like a mini guide haha...
well, there're some restrictions although it's not that bad to be carried along sometimes by the festive atmosphere, it's good to release tension (within some limits)
I'd like you'll visit us and know some of our traditions, although i,m not sure if this one is the best to know in first place so I'll start letting you know other ones firstly haha..
This celebration has nothing to do with religion but they usually take place in the month of December.
Thanks a lot for reading and let me know when you'll come ;)
Oh..! Thank you for your wishes too dear.
Haha... Mary, I suspected you were a 'law breaker' and I must say I totally agree with you this time. Well, we have our dinner this weekend but I'll set an example maintaining composure, as for dancing hmmm... I don't promise anything :D
Btw, I wonder why getting along with bosses is looked down upon :/
Ohh... and thanks for animating my dull blogs.
Yes, I guess it's the same everywhere, no matter if it's in the south or the north these kind of celebrations. Anyway I think they are not bad since we know our colleagues in a different environment and help to create a good ambient and feeling among us.
Well, some little 'incidents' are unavoidable for someone at the end haha...
Thank you for the do's and don'ts! I'll bear them in mind. December is the busiest month here in the Philippines. In fact, next week is the start of nine-day dawn masses for the Catholics and I'm quite excited for it. Feliz Navidad, Estanis! :)
