My friend nida - one of our active members here on MyEC - just asked where all the blogs about Gaza are and if I have deleted all of them. I thanked her for asking and told her I didn't deleted the blogs. But I also told her that anything that may cause fights or hatred between MyEC members can be flaged or closed by the system, which means you can't see the blogs any more.
I understand the subtlety of the situation in the Gaza Strip. I'm so sorry that so many lives there were lost. The question is when we'll have true peace or when we don't need to fight or kill any more. I know it's a long story or history. I think people around the world have already noticed the situation there and there are a lot of places on the Internet where we can discuss the problems. Let's pray for the peace and hope for the best!
MyEC is intended for being a place where you can learn English and make friends, so it can be so improper to post anything that may spark a serious argument. You may argue that it's also related to English learning - we're discussing in English:))
Sorry if you don't agree with me. What do you think of that?
Comments
@AH_TK Most likely the reason your blog post was flagged is that you stole pictures from a news site and didn't have permission to use them. I'm not sure which post is being referred to, but I recall at least one post that was flagged due to illegal images. Feel free to take this up with me in private. Thank you.
Alright Expector ...
as you said ... "political topics aren't a taboo here on MyEC" and from my side I don't like to break the rules.
So, I will ask you a favor ...
This favor is to help me to write another blog about Gaza, or in other words, to point out at the things that made my blog get blocked so i can avoid it in the future.
Pls don't tell me, it was blocked cuz it might make members argue and fight cuz i can see the rest of the blogs about Gaza are still in the blog section.
you said "I think Tara has made it clear, or rather she has answered the questions clearly."
Maybe I don't get what she said.
so....
If you really want to help, tell me the reasons of flagging my blog and how I can avoid them.
I think Tara has made it clear, or rather she has answered the questions clearly.
We're having a discussion here and we encourage other members to join in.
As for political topics
First, political or rather international political topics aren't a taboo here on MyEC - you are allowed to talk about it here. I don't really know about politics, though. Political topics can be so sensitive and may cause fights or hatred here, which I don't think is what you want. You should know our members come from different countries or cultures. It's natural for them to love their own country. Politics is all around, not just in the Middle East. The USA vs Russia or China, China vs Japan, India vs Pakistan... For some members, they may think if only there were no such a country as Israel, while for some members, they may think if only there were no such a country as the USA, or Russia or China or Japan or whatever country you hate or dislike. But, the problem is no matter how you hate or dislike them, they won't disappear from this world. We need to face the challenge and try to deal with the problem and make this world more peaceful. When I was studying in Canada, I saw a Jewish doctor and a Syrian doctor working together in the operating room. They both were my friends and they didn't really hate or dislike each other. I hope people in the Middle East can enjoy true peace, but first the both sides should find a solution. It takes time and effort from both sides. Let's hope for the best. Sorry again for people who are still living in the conflict areas. Let's pray for them.
@AH_TK
I know you're one of our active members here on MyEC, and I really enjoyed reading your blogs. I understand what you were trying to say. We do have guidelines on the content of blogs - any improper blog is subject to be flagged or closed or deleted, sometimes just depending on a mod's or the admin's personal judgement. I hope you can understand and keep up your great work here on MyEC!
Expector ..
"anything that may cause fights or hatred between MyEC members can be flaged or closed by the system"
"it can be so improper to post anything that may spark a serious argument"
My question is .. what is your opinion about this blog ... "I Am Not Sorry About Palestine"
http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/i-am-not-sorry-about-the-p...
Don't you think this kind of blogs can cause a spark of serious argument ?
Don't you think this kind of blogs can cause fights or hatred between MyEC members ?
I, myself, wasn't planning to write anything about Gaza .. cuz as many said everybody can know what goes on there from the news.
but after reading this title "I Am Not Sorry About Palestine" and reading the blog.
I told myself ... if the writer of this blog is not sorry about palestine .. He/she might change his mind after seeing the horrible pics of the lil kids who get killed by Israeli shelling.
I hope that everybody gets the same treatment here.
Tara ..
"We promote freedom of expression here on MyEC, as long as you haven't used abusive language. If you've included photos or text that you copied from the Internet, a post will likely get flagged or deleted"
Regarding the abusive language .. it was mostly pics.
Regarding the pics that are copied from the internet then from where all the members bring the pics in their blogs especially when they are pics of an international conflict ?
Luzzi ...
"AH, u posted mostly pictures and such pictures we can see daily on tv"
so what ?? are pics not allowed to be posted ? does it mean if you posted pics in your blog to be flagged or blocked ?
"ppl write about some situations or conflicts but I guess blogs of Josef or others weren't repeated here many times and I think that's the Expector's point"
I think that we are free to write in any topic (even if it was repeat). especially, when it is a current situation that everyone talks about. this is part of "freedom of expression"
"Mostly Muslims are here on Ec and unfortunatelly from some of them we could have seen hatred towards West mentioned in their commemts - as if all the West supported Israel"
It is not about Muslims support Gaza or Jews support Israel .. It is about humanity .. it is about stopping killing children in UN schools. Regarding to hatred comments toward West .. you can easily report them. but my question is .. How can we differ between hatred and freedom of speech? ... I see many members here showing their hatred toward muslims and justify it by telling it is "freedom of speech" .. on the other side, when muslims do that they call it hatred.
you, yourself, mentioned in your comment that muslims show their hatred toward west in their comments while this blog isn't about Muslims .. it is about Gaza .. so i wonder who shows his hatred now ???
"this website is for English learners and for sure if ppl turn on tv, read sth on the internet, they know what's going on in Gaza strip."
this is what i was asking for ... do rules allow writing about political issues and conflicts or not ??
If the answer is yes .. then Gaza news is included.
If the answer is NO .. then all political blogs should be flagged like ukraine's crisis ... ISIS .. syria and so on.
I haven't deleted any blog posts about Gaza. We promote freedom of expression here on MyEC, as long as you haven't used abusive language. If you've included photos or text that you copied from the Internet, a post will likely get flagged or deleted. Or, if you've attacked another person or group, a post will get deleted.
Thanks,
Tara
Hello friends,
I would say that if someone writes a blog about Gaza or Ukrain or whatever, it won't change anything it's obvious there are supporters and opponents of everything on earth. As there are people support Ukrain there are people against. Morover, I don't see any problem if many write about Gaza, why? They are writing in English, they are using maybe new words in politics, new expressions...ect so let's say they are improving their writing skill even if they fight or express their feelings towards others wether hatred or love, it's just through writing not by bombs or weapons. Memebers here are aware of what they are doing, most importantly it won't last for long after one month or more they will forget because I don't think they will talk about it the whole life.
Please look at blogs here as essays and writers as learners not fighters, those essays need corrections not ignore or delete them.
Thanks!
"I also told her that anything that may cause fights or hatred between MyEC members can be flaged or closed by the system, which means you can't see the blogs any more"
"MyEC is intended for being a place where you can learn English and make friends, so it can be so improper to post anything that may spark a serious argument."
Expector, I'm wondering ... I wrote a blog about gaza yesterday .. does that mean it is flagged or closed by ( the system !!!!! ) ??? ... I think form what you said the answer is clear.
I'm still wondering .. does that mean that writing about Gaza "which causes fights or hatred between MyEC members" is not allowed ? ... I think the answer is very clear .. writing about Gaza is not allowed.
what about writing about ISIS ? doesn't it "causes fights or hatred between MyEC members" ? or it is allowed ? have you read this blog before ?
http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/no-title-5
what about writing about ukraine's crisis ? doesn't it "causes fights or hatred between MyEC members" ? or it is allowed ? check this blog ... http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/fun-box
the same goes to the Malaysian flight .. is it allowed to write about it? http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/remembering-mh17
what about these blogs ... ??
-From Iraq, A Tragic Reminder To Prosecute The War Criminals ...( http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/from-iraq-a-tragic-reminde...)
-Torture in Libya by NATO Allies ... ( http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/torture-in-libya-by-nato-a... )
-US-NATO war crimes in Libya ... ( http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/us-nato-war-crimes-in-libya )
Do you know that these 3 blogs were published by the Founder Josef ?
So all these blogs are allowed and only the blogs about Gaza have got flagged ???
Now, I'm asking ... what are the rules or the standards that admins and mods follow to flag the blogs ?
I have no problems with rules ... If the rules say don't write about political issues, I won't have any problem as long as these rules will be applied on all members.
If the rules are to write freely with no restrictions, I won't have any problem .. cuz it will be applied on all of us.
but the real problem is to flag writing about a certain issue without any standards or rules by only following the staff personal judgment.
