Big Words

Hello guys,

Doing some researches, I saw a very long word in English on the Internet and had the curiosity of asking if you know a longer one. Here it comes... Neuropsychopharmacology. Really long, uh?

So, have you ever seen a word like this in English? If so, I would love to read it! Share it with us!

Take care,

Joyce.

  • Hi Joyce!

How are you? Well, this morning (local time) I was browsing through at random the featured blogs for the month of September. To my greatest amusement, I stumbled upon your post “Big Words” and I couldn’t resist myself from sharing this particular word which is considered The Longest Word In The World! I hope you'll like it!

  • That's true, Dreamy Girl!!

Imagine how much time we would need just to try to say those words... hehehe

  • It will be very fun!!!
  • I challenge you all to record these big words and share using Vocaroo or Audioboo!
  • Dreamy girl, I have read something interesting on this link. It says that we must understand that "words are made up of speech sounds, or phonemes" and we have to have the Phonemic Awareness, that is "the understanding that the sounds of spoken language work together to make words".

Then, in my opinion (and I would like someone could correct me if I am wrong), phonemes are as important as the number of letters, because the form words together. If we just mix some letters, with no combinations of sounds, we are not going to form words. So, it's necessary to take in account both letters and phonemes to know how long a word is.

What do you think about it?

  • Wow! That's much longer! ;)

I have read that it means a lung disease caused by breathing in particles of siliceous volcanic dust.

And I also have found other ones on this link, take a look: http://www.englishforums.com/English/LotsOfBigWords/bvwgh/post.htm

    Thanks, Dreamy Girl!
