This is official, MyEC will give awards for chatters. So, regular chatters, you are better to be ready for it!
I have been at My EC for more than a year now, and one of the many useful features at this club ,which always brings me back, is the chat room. I won't deny that there were times when chatting on the main room were not such a good experience. If you have been around for a long time, you must have read some blogs that discussed both good things and bad things which happens on main room.
Unfortunately, some members believe that the room is a den of naughty people.
But, I always believe that the chat room is a neutral room and it is only as good as members who are chatting there. So, we can't blame the room, but we can blame how people chat there. And I also believe, that instead spending my time to criticize about how some members chat there, I can be one of them who make the chat room better. I always believe that I should be the change itself, before I can change others.
So, I suggested this idea to Tara and Nadira. And they too agree with this idea. Then, Nadira gave me this honor to announce the Official Chatters Awards. We want to change the image of the main room and turn it into something constructive and useful to all English learners in a fun way. Tara already introduced us with moderated chat to give us a fun way to make use of the chat room. So, giving these Official Awards will give regular chatters some incentives for their contributions, as I notice there are many great regular chatters who turn the chat room into such a wonderful place.
Award mechanism:
There will be some awards divided into several categories. The awards will be given to chatters both regular and new chatter according to certain requirements. While the chat room moderators monitor the chat room, they will store screenshots every time they meet chatters who meet the criteria.
In the end of each month, they will announce the nominators. The first winner for each category will be chosen by the Chat Moderators. While the second winner will be chosen by members.
Award categories:
1. The most helpful chatter
This award is given to chatters who always be helpful on main room by answering members' questions about English or general things. They help new members to understand how to use MyEC, suggest them the appropriate ways to deal with troublemakers (click ignore button), encouraging members to be active and involve in useful activities such as blogging, commenting, etc.
2. The successful moderated chat leader
If there are any members who want to lead moderated chat and throw good topics, the members will be nominated into this category. Don't worry,the term successful doesn't mean that you should have great English to be moderator chat leader. The chat room moderators seek members who have a willingness to lead moderated chat and they are able to start it even in a short time.
3. The funniest chatter
Chatting in English while we have fun and make jokes is an effective way to improve our English. So, any members who the chat moderators think funny when they are chatting will be nominated. Of course the jokes and funny statements that chatters type should be constructive, not dirty or racist jokes.
4. Useful topic starter
Not all members know what moderated chat is and not all of them comfortable to start it. That's fine. This nomination goes to chatters who start a useful topic on main room. Whether or not other chatters approve the topic, the moderators will see the topic starters' enthusiasm and initiative.

Hi Oriani, I'm sorry if you cannot enjoy the chat room. I heard the same complaints from some female friends here and I think the fact that some "people" only signed up to MyEC to find online dating partners is something sad. And I don't think these people deserve to be called as members here.
So, I understand that you feel upset and think that the chat room is a waste of time. But, I also want to show other members that there are another positive things that we could do by using the chat room.
I think, the chat room is neutral , and it is the chatters there who give it positive and negative meaning. So, let's give it a chance, Oriani. We have one feature to block people that you think are annoying: http://my.englishclub.com/page/boring-chatters
You can even help us to by reporting "people" who are here only to find "online dating partners."

Yes, I agree with you. There are many good chatter on MyEC who like to help other members to learn English. These people need to be appreciated.

Thank for the compliment and your attempt, Yasemin. I think the main room needs more good members like you to chat there. About to convince non-chatters to start visit chat room, I have several ideas:
1. Make appointment
Maybe we can try to arrange appointment to chat on main room with them. I know that non-chatters also have their own groups. Ask the group to join chat on main room together. Or make the schedule match with moderated chat schedule.
2. Ready to click ignore button:
Explain to non-chatters: We don't have any obligation to chat with any member. We have right to choose with whom we would like to chat. We have rights to refuse to answer members' questions. If you find any member try to violate you rights, just click the ignore button.

Thank you for your compliment. I'm really glad to see that you like my idea :) I hate to say the truth, but it won't be so easy to introduce a new thing like moderated chat there or this award. Every member who had tried to lead a moderated chat already knew how hard it is. That's why I suggested this idea, so members who have starting good chats there will know that they are appreciated. And more good members join us. Like Nadira wrote, it would take a solid team work, Anele.

I needed to thank you for joining us in the chat game last Sunday. Your idea is funny, but I don't think we don't need to make that award. So, troublemakers are already well-known for that titles :) Lol, just kidding. I hope we will have more chances to practice chat games :)
