Bed Time.

Did you know today was the World Sleep Day??!!!!  ...I didn't and I wasted all this long day being awake!! Shame on me! :((((

To 'celebrate' this day, here I've put together some random pointless facts about sleep that I know you can't wait to learn:

1- "Dynasia" is the state of finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning.  Yup. I suffer from it :P

2- "Parasomnia" is a term that refers to unnatural movements during your sleep.   Some people have even sleep driving and even murder! D: *Note to self: This can be a very cool alibi*

3- It's thought that up to 15% of the population are sleepwalkers. But it's a myth that you shouldn't wake someone who is sleepwalking (a myth probably made up by a wife who wanted to get rid of her annoying sleepwalking hubby)

4- Sleep deprivation will kill you more quickly than food deprivation.   Some researches claim that sleep is more important than food in the short term. But in any case, any of both deprivations aren't good for you :P

5- 12% of people dream entirely in Black and White. Like in old movies! :P

6- A giraffe only needs 1.9 hours of sleep a day, whereas a brown bat needs 19.9 hours a day.  I wanna be a bat.

7- Humans spend 1/3 of their life sleeping. And still we've time enough to screw up the whole planet.

8- Those born blind experience dreams involving things such as emotion, sound and smell rather than sight.

9- Within 5 minutes of waking up, 50% of your dream is forgotten... But for me that's the 100% :P

10- Pain tolerance is reduced by sleep deprivation.

11- Fear is said not to be the main emotion in nightmares. Instead, researches have found that it's more often feelings of sadness, guilt and confusion.

12- Ideally, falling asleep at night should take you 10-15 minutes.   For me it's more like 0'5 seconds right after laying my head on the pillow. Actually, i can even fall asleep just thinking about my pillow, like right no...zzzzzzzzz

And now you're probably wondering: -"Mary, what other ways do you have of saying "I'm going to bed", "I'm going to sleep?, Please, tell us!!" ... Okay, okay, geezz... how demanding ¬¬

Here a link from the site: "Dictionary of American Regional English" with a list; some of my fave:

"Hit the sack", "Get some shut-eye", "Check In", "Roll in", "Hit the bed/pillow/sheets", "Snooze", "Going to Sleepyland", "Count sheeps", "Going to Dreamland", "Feed my nightmares", "Get my beauty sleep", "Get some siesta!"...

Now, let's go to sleep.

  • Hi Mary!

What a GRRRRREAT Blog you have posted!

I came to know a lot of useful and interesting things about sleeping and something else!

I also spent this day being awake. Sigh :/

    1) I also have that Dynasia.

    2) Parasomnia. :-!  You know, for me all the words, that ends with "somnia or omnia" are mysterious and little bit scary! Hmmmmm

    3) Sleepwalkers are ok. But what about those people, that they can suddenly fall asleep right on the street, like Mister Bean:

    5) My dreams are colorful. And what about you?

    6) I want to be a Giraffe. :P

    9) Then please keep a notebook and a pen near to your bed. So, you would be able to write down your dream! Come on, share those masterpieces of your mind! Don't be selfish! :P

    11) That is weird. But I think, it is still true. I still remember one sad, ugly and beautiful old dream.

    12) Usually it takes maybe 30-60 minutes for me to fall asleep. Or even more. You are so lucky to be able to fall asleep so fast.

:D I will try to go to feed my nightmares as soon as it possible.

Thank you for sharing, Mary! :)

Sleep well and watch the beautiful colorful dreams. And remember them enough long after waking up, to be able to tell them to me! :D
