Ashura means the tenth of Muharram; the Arabic month that comes after the month of Hajj in the Arabic lunar calendar. Today is 10/10/2016 which corresponds to 09/1/1438. What is the story behind this day? When prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Medina he found the Jewish fasting on this day. He told them what was that day and they explained that they did this to thank God because the Israelites were freed from Pharaoh, the king of Egypt at that time, on that day. The prophet told them that he and his followers had the right to fast on that day, more than the Jewish. He ordered the Muslims to fast on Ashura, but they must fast one day ahead of it or one day before.
In hadeeth, the fasting of Ashura atones the sins of the previous year. It also commemorates with the martyrdom of Al Hassan bin Ali, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Some Muslims consider it a sad day. We are fasting now to gain the favor of Allah and wipe the sins of the previous year. I should have published it yesterday to remind my fellow Muslims about it. But they can fast tomorrow and the day after.

The holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
"Hussein is from me and I'm from Hussein"
(This saying was quoted in many Shia and Sunni books including Bihar Al-Anvar V.43 and Sonan Termizi, V.5, p.658.)
The holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“O’ Fatimah! Every eye shall be weeping on the Day of Judgment except the eye which has shed tears over the tragedy of Hussain (PBUH) for surely, that eye shall be laughing and shall be given the glad tidings of the bounties and comforts of Paradise.”

The holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Verily Hussain is the shining light of guidance and the ark of salvation .”
The holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“My son is buried in a land called Karbala, a monument which has always been an Islamic Dome as there God saved the companions of the Prophet Noah from the hurricane.”

I hope this discussions about fasting on Ashura beside Martyrdom of Imam Hussein doesn't make the readers confused!
It's totally true that in Islam, the "Intention" is the most important part of our acts!
And I believe that your Intention is good in fasting.
And there is something here that I must explain:
in this great day, two Important events have happened!
1st: fasting in this day recommended by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
2nd: Martyrdom of Imam Hussein (pbuh) and his Companions by "Bani Ummayah".
And This is where people put these two events into the scales!
They put prophet Muhammad in one plate and His son on the other plate!
which plate is heavier ?
Everyone who recognizes "Hussein Ibn Ali" just a son of Prophet will see the 1st plate heavier ...
But If you recognize him as the prophet's successor and The vicegerent of Allah then all things change ...
in on plate you have the prophet of God's recommendation and on the other plate you have martyrdom of the prophet's successor ...
so as you can see, in depends on you to how to recognize "Hussein" ???

Mishaikh janab, bahut bahut shukriya for your help and support. It is indeed very nice to show to the others their misunderstanding of something. Do we hate hadrat Imam Alhassan? No, by God. Do we hate his mother or his father? No, by God. I told Hassan Abbas that it was enough, Imam Hassan was the grandson of our Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
Abi duhur ka namaz khatam hogiya! Ake cheez deko, Hassan sahab, do you think those people who do bad things to others are Muslims? I do not want to name their atrocious deeds by name, but do we call those ones Muslims? They are causing headaches for the whole world. Leave all these things aside, is it possible for me to fast because Imam Hassan (peace be upon him) was martyred? He is the son of Imam Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He is the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, isn't it enough? Those who fast because of his shahdah, as my respected friend, janab Mishaikh said, they are not Muslims. The Fasting on the day of Ashura and day after and day before DOES NOT RELATE TO THE
SHAHADA OF HAZRAT IMAM HUSSAIN (MAY PEACE AND MERCY OF ALLAH UPON HIM).
This fasting is done by the desire of The holy Prophet, (PBUH) and all the Sahabs had been doing long before the Sahahda of Harzrat Imam Hussain. Please do not confused the readers in the FIQAHI EXPLANATION.
ASHURA THE MATTERED DAY OF IMAM HUSSAIN IS THE LINE WHICH DIFFERENTIATE TRUTH FROM LIE,GOO FROM BAD,WRIGHT FROM WRONG ,HUMANITY FROM CRUELTY,SO ONE WHO IS ON RIGHT PATH FOLLOW IMAM HUSSAIN (AS) AND ALL WITH EVIL AND CRUEL MIND FOLLOW YAZEED.
