Hello friends The Copa América, the main international soccer tournament for national teams in South America, starts next week in Chile. I was talking to my uncle about this event, and he asked me if I buy the Colombian shirt team soccer. I said no, an then he replied me: are you proud of your country, aren´t you? Rememeber, it´s important for us...
I have to admit, I was thinking about this issue: are you proud of your country? And I realized my uncle is right, I´m not proud of my country. Am I a bad citizen for this? Well, I feel good when my country wins a game or a colombian athlete wins a sporting event. But I´m not proud of this because I´m not part of the team, I´ve done nothing, there is no sense to be proud of being born into a country, I didn´t decide it.
On the other hand, I think a country is more than a team, flag or hymn; a country is defined by what you do in order to build a better place to live.
What do you think about this? are you proud of your country race or religion? I would really appreciate your comments.

Hello Elena, I had not thought about "love for our country was born with us". I think the big problem with this is we only feel responsible for our own nation and there are a lot of people were unfortunate to be born in countries that have many problems and don´t have any compatriots who have the capacity to assist them.
Thanks for your comment...
hey i appreciate your views. "for I am first a man anad only then a Frenchman" We should think about the whole humanity
Hello Gerardo, I read your post and I think that the attachment to our country was born with us. Well, when I watch a football match on tv, I'm proud of my team, I sing the national himn and I'm happy if the team wins. There are some moments in which that feeling of being part of my country is stronger and other moments in which I'd like to be born elsewhere, because there happen things that I dislike. I think that we can't let external reasons conditionate us, love for our country is really important, people died in the past to defend it and its ideals of freedom and indipendence.
