We are living in an era when the industrialization has had a huge impact on almost every aspect of our lives particularly food industry. Thanks to the pesticides and fertilizers, the quantity of available fruits, crops, and vegetables have increased. But how about the quality?

Any of us may have seen the fruits or veggies that have lost their normal shapes or even taste. Who will guarantee that humans cannot be vulnerable towards the adverse effects of chemical substances such as fertilizers and pesticides.

Now that organic food products are victimized by modern agriculture mostly, we are concerned about the eating disorders more. This concern may cause people to watch what they put into their mouth excessively, and as a result to be worried about their health status.

Orthorexia, in this regard, stands for a situation in which someone is obsessed about eating foods that are healthy. At first glance, this situation may sound beneficial to the person who is orthorexic. But this situation can put the orthorexic person in trouble, and lead to some unhealthy consequences such as anxiety, anorexia, lengthy starvation, malnutrition, and so on. It’s really good to avoid junk and unhealthy foods, but not in an obsessive way like orthorexic people. In other words, moderation is the best.

You can visit the following webpage to see if you have got orthorexia.

Let’s discuss:

Are you orthorexic or you think it’s just healthy eating? What are your recommendations for whom they are suffering from this disorder? How is it possible to follow a healthy diet without being orthorexic?

Thanks for reading, liking, and commenting beforhand. Stay fine!

  • Um..... First of all, it's a nice blog or topic with an unusual content, especially its title. We're used to say " A tree is known by it's fruit" , i.e the good title will carry a good message. Besides in the very first instance, the title what capture our attention to read a book, an article or a blog ..etc.
The second coming is; How the sentences are formed, how the language is used, how much thought is put into the phrasing, how much simplicity in comprehension, how many vocabulary you've utilized without repetition ... so on. Personally, i'm getting along with that a good piece of writing, or a good speech should be brief and concise. And the information conveyed by your piece of text went well beyond the specific content of the words. I liked it, and your reply at  Evangelina's comment. You've described and explained the destined facts figuratively rather than literally. That made your cluses more interesting and impressive, well done.
Finally; Let's discuss. I'm not Orthorexic.
Our Quality of life, "The enjoyment of life at a basic level" which includes being happy and healthy, rather than having lots of money, perhaps even being rich, reaches its minimum, maybe under the standard level. Certainly that's beyond the vital and critical issue of your topic. Alas!!! You didn't mention any statistics about how many people die per year because of foodborne. "foodborne diseases cause approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths in the United States each year." That's inapplicable numbers just in USA, what about the rest countries of the second and third world.
Hm.... There are many statistics, analysis, articles and comparisons between the Organic and non-organic food. And the hazardous to human health which never stop, but developing with time. That drives me to say " Our shelf life at risk".

Thank you for sharing, Excuse my broken English, and if my words didn't hit the valid point of the core of the speech.

  • thank you for sharing this.

  • Dear Camel

Nicotine ? Are you a smoker? You made it even worse man! Now, I have to think of a blog in which I criticize smokers. In my opinion, being an orthorexic is a lot better than a smoker in terms of health status. How do you think?

  • Dear Evangelina

You are most welcome dear. You have divided people into 3 categories wisely based on their eating habits. I would like to add my own category here too.

I would divide them into two main groups.

1- People who are poor and can hardly make both ends meet--these people have a hard time following a healthy regime. And most of the time, they eat whatever goes to fill their stomach regardless of the quality of the foods.

2- People who are rich and affluent -- these types of people can eat whatever they want. Among these people, however, some follow a healthy regime reasonably, some go overboard and get obsessed with a healthy regime (like orthorexics), and some others don't care about the quality of their diet.

You know, some orthorexics pursue these regimes to show off and give the people around them this impression that they are open-minded and civilized people. Though, most of them end up with some physical or spchycological disorders.

I do agree with you. It's up to us how to live effectively. However, there are some people who has no choice to follow a healthy life style—like those who fall in the first category.  Thanks for your time reading and leaving your comment dear Evangelina.

  • Dear Edwin0123

In my opinion, orthorexics have this mentality about their eating habits: " Poison is poison, even little of that." Thant's probably why they get obsessed too much with whatever they eat. I'm not a nutritionist, but I guess eating junk foods once a month won't put you in trouble compared with being cautious and nervous about your eating habits all the time.

So, enjoy eating hamburgers and french fries; but only once in a month, not more! (winking)

    Thanks for reading and commenting.

  • I liked your post Hurieh and to be honest, I had never heard about Orthorexia.

I like to avoid food that I think there are nothing good about it, but I am not go crazy about it, I mean, I still eating hamburgers and french fries ones a month, but definitely is a good thing to take care of your eating habits.

Thank you Hurieh for lecture me about Orthorexia :)

  • My corrections:
Num#1: Cucumber is a vegetable not fruit. (smiling)
Num#2: One generation plants trees, another generation eats (from their fruits.) hahaha

  • My dear friend, setareh
It's my pleasure to get your comments on my blogs. And it is a pity I couldn't read your long comment.
I remember the old days when I was a school-aged student. We usually had some fruits like cucumbers or tangerines in our bags to snack when we were at school. Sometimes, we intended to eat them sneakily when the teacher was lecturing. But e didn't dare do that because the nice strong fragrance of the fruits might have spread all around. haha
Though, nowadays, we have to eat fruits that not only are they tasteless, but also they are fragrantless too. Good old days indeed!

Anyway, I agree with your point of view. We can't avoid fruits entirely. I hope humans' knowledge will help them discover ways to produce more organic foods and healthy products someday-- at least for the next generations. One generation plants trees, another generation eat them.

    Thanks for your lovely comment.

  • Dear Hurieh, last night I wrote a long comment but unfortunately I couldn't send it, so here we go. First very nice post! As you also mentioned in your post it's good to be careful about what we eat and how much we eat but to be obsessive is not good. I sometimes don't like the taste of some fruits that have changed comparing to the past but we know that fruit is necessary for our health. So we should try to eat less or if possible no fast food and do exercise. Thanks for sharing your amazing post.
  • Dear AG,

I'm pleased you learned something new out of my blog. I also appreciate you for your heart-warming words.
