Winston Churchill never thought a man wearing a simple outfit and having a simple lifestyle could make India independent. He simply underestimated his rival due to first impression. He once addressed Ghandi, a poor half-naked person who was striding toward the Royal Palace. In addition, Adolf Hitler was quite short, but his ability in speech and having a charismatic character made him a powerful man. In Germany he still has some followers. These examples show how we can make false judgement by external appearance.Today, our judgement is formed by mass media. We are bombarded with a huge amount of advertisements on cosmetic products and outfits. We have the Miss World contest to determine who is beautiful and fit. TV programs such as “Fashion police” or “What not to wear” form our minds and ideas about a descent individual. But, in society everything is different. Criminal statistics present that most girls are sexually assaulted by handsome well-dressed men. Even though the exterior may somehow reflect personality, it cannot guarantee what is in one’s heart and mind. One may seem so elegant at first glance, but after getting to know him, he may exhibit unattractive personality traits. The opposite can be true in this case. Someone with ugly dress is thoughtful and caring. Thus, we should separate the images constructed by mass media from what we confront in reality.Secondly, true beauty is not aesthetically appealing to the eyes. Physical beauty fades away with age, sickness, accident, etc. Permanent beauty nourishes the soul. In other words, what matters most is how one has helped humanity. Mother Teresa is not internationally acclaimed for her physical attraction, but because of her humanitarian actions to the poor, the sick, the orphaned and the dying public. The magnitude of a man is determined according to who he really is and not according to what he has. So, real beauty is to own a great soul.Lastly, I remember a story. One day, Nasreddin went to a party while he put on ordinary cloths. At the party, no one talked with him and he sat close to the exit door. Next month, he was invited to the same party once again but, he put on excellent cloths and went there. This time, they warmly welcomed him and asked him to sit in a fine place in the room. Then, at dinner, he poured all the food into his sleeve and said: Cloth! Eat. Cloth! Eat. This story refers to how public respect of one another is done according to the external appearance while a man should be judged as a good human being no matter what he wears or has. I think external appearance is not a good factor to judge and see someone’s heart. It also fades away with time. So, we should judge people according to inner beauty.*I very much appreciate dear Bill for correcting my essay.I got the picture from here.

  • Dear Nafis,
    I absolutely agree:-)
We have saying "Clothes do not make a man''. Appearances are deceptive.Judge not of men and things at first sight.A fair face may hide a foul soul.
I would like to bring this example:"He asked me what I would wear and I told him whatever he himself considered suitable to the morning. This amused him."It's not the coat that makes the morning gay",he said,"but the man inside it".(du Maurier)
    Thanks for this interesting essay.
    Cheers,
    Ruzan
  • Wooow!
Dear Nafis, I think know more than me....
yes I mean what you wrote it better
I beleive that the inner behaviours of a person show themselves with a specific frequencies and jestures, if we know these frequencies and jesture then we can recognize these persons too, although it it maybe isn't a absolutely method to judge others, but I think we can trust this method as a first perception in our relations

    All the best :)
  • Dear Singh,

Thanks a lot for your comment. Yes, what you said is exactly true.

    Have a great time,
    Nafis
  • Dear Mahmoud,

I know what you mean and I really believe in it too. Some years ago, I read an article explained it is because every person send a special frequency to the world. In fact, all creatures are made of energy and therefore, they send a special frequency. So, some people have the same frequency or their frequency is so close. And, because two similar things can be with each other better than two different things so two people of the same frequency can absorb each other intensively. Have you ever experienced when you see someone for the first time and you do not know him/her very well but you feel he/she can be a good friend with you? It is because of that. What do you think?

    Have a great time,
    Nafis
  • Hi Nafis and all friends here,
It’s true that the appearance of someone can’t show his/her characteristics, but I want to share something that is different what we discussed so far.

I know a lot of people that they act as their appearances radiate: for example if your face radiates hope; it means that you are in a good manner that time. In fact a lot of cases convince me the inner characteristics show themselves in appearance.

The last case was when I wanted to rent a house for myself, the real estate manager looked like as a crafty man but as witty. His face alarm me that this man is not good, but his speeches induced me that he is a gentleman and has courtesy. But finally I found that he isn’t as well as he wants to show himself.

After this event, I really trust the appearance radiating from a person, unless it proves tha the opposite is true.

I believe that if someone doing wrong as a permanent behavior, it shows in his/her face too. You can see this rule in leaders clearly. Although some of them try to deceive their nation, but you can discover them from their face.

Have a good time Nafis :)
  • My lovely Suela,

Thanks a lot for reading my essay. I've seen people who are very beautiful or handsome but whenever they talk or behave, it is disgusting so that beauty fades away.

    Love,
  • Dear Soniya,

I would appreciate if you write about this topic again so that we can notice what a good essay can be.

    Thanks and cheers,
  • My lovely Nadiyah,

Thanks a lot for your nice comment. External appearance must not be the first priority to judge someone. I got your point...

    Have a wonderful time,
  • hello my lovely friend, dear Nafis
Your question difficult to answer, depending on which point of view
someone see it. I think the external appearance is important, but not absolute.
we can say that one can appreciate his self seen of how they dressed. appreciate his self is part of the beauty from within ...
thanks for great essay, have a great time ...

    -Nadiyah-
  • Dear Mahmoud,

Thanks a million for your comment. This sentence is so great: " If we have less beauty inside, we try to make up more beauty ouside."
