A day with my son

I long to see my son, to experience life through a 7 year olds eyes. The world is truly a wonderful place through his eyes, as far as the eye can see, never ending horizons, there is no concept of distance, just adventure, wonder, and simplicity. We as adults tend to over complicate things.

My son and I go on many adventures without even leaving the house; imagination is truly a wonderful thing.  In my yard we are great explorers seeking out rare and endangered animals in unchartered parts of the yard.

In the words of my son "Look at this lizard Dad, it looks so much like a Dinosaur, it looks so sad". Without imagination we would just see a lizard. I am truly blessed.

Inside the house we are painters, actors, composers, and novelists looking to pen the next great novel. We are always on the move seeking out new ideas and games we can play, all the time only limited by our imagination.

I get inspiration from many places for my writings; the inspiration I get from my son eclipses even the most beautiful of sunsets.

Our conversations are simple yet carry the honesty one could only ever hope for. I love that my son can express his own individuality but I am quietly proud that he wants to follow in my footsteps. I never have to push him one way or the other, he is like a running stream, never fixed, always finding his own way. My job as Dad is to provide, guide, and protect him.

The short time I get with my son energizes me for another week.

Then the sadness grows as it's time to take him home. Until next time my little man.

  • You seem to be a great dad to your son. You know, as parents we hope our kids to grow up, but its the fact that the more mature they are the more separated they get from their parents. So enjoy this short period of time when we can and appreciate every moments we are sharing with them...That's what I tell myself everyday  (sometimes as every other absent minded parents I just forget it) :D
