Until now I have written poems about romantic topics.
This time I tried to write about a political subject in form of a cradle song ... very different to the well-known cradle songs.
Maybe someone thinks that topic shouldn't be written in form of a cradle song ... but it was my way. This poem isn't new. I had written it already a few years ago. Now I have it rewrited because as always when we read again old things we get new ideas to change or to improve.
A cradle song
Oh my baby please don't cry.
Hold still then I will tell you why.
Oh my baby please hold still.
There are some men with evil will.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Oh my baby it's too late
since people started sowing hate.
I can not say why they us hate.
Before the war, some were a mate.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Oh my baby some false friends
They did not give us helping hands.
Some neighbors seem to be so blind.
Don't see how rulers use their mind.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Oh my baby I can't stand
what haters do with our homeland.
Good strangers here they do us hide,
Thanks them we are still alright.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Oh my baby we can't stay
we have to go a dangerous way.
Your dad had left, a place to find
where people live with peacefull mind.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Oh my baby there must be
a secure place to where we flee.
I hope your dad the land will find
Where are the people good and kind.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Oh my baby, oh I want
once to show you your homeland.
I hope sometime we can get home.
One day perhaps the peace will come.
Don't cry my baby... please hold still
Because the hunters want to kill.
Maybe sometime when we forgot
the fears and pains the we had got.
When we are back home here to live
We don't forget ... but we'll forgive.
Then never more you must hold still
Because... no hunters want to kill.
Comments
Dear Risty Aven, thanks for your comment. This poem is written by myself as so as all of the poems I publish here. I wrote it, when I right remember, 2 years ago and I did rewrite it now because I think with advancing language skills we never are satisfied with our first draft.
I think experiences of war isn't depend on time, it's always an actual topic.
Dear Ms. Rose, after reading this poem I can't help but think about world war II, every stanza denotes danger, escape, and fear. But overall, this is one of the best poem I ever read here in MyEC. Thanks Ms. Rose for sharing this to us.
Dear Kal, thanks for your comment. You have written it seems as if it's written about you and your son... if I understood your words correctly. I hope for you, it was just an imagination and not a realy experience.
thanks for your comment dear Serene
It is a super great poem, Rose , dear.
Such a beautiful poem.I felt, it was my son and me.Appreciate your skill dear and many thanks for sharing!
I live in Europe Fahim, so I think you didn't see me.
Thanks Luci, I appreciate your comments because I have noticed that you are a sincere person who expresses her opinion clearly and without to flatter. That's what makes your comments so valuable. I try writing my poems as good as possible. We all aren't native English speaker and maybe it would be easier to write poems in our mother tongue ... but it's fun to improve a foreign language while writing.
