A country of six seasons!

Well, we have never experienced of having harsh winter or warm rather we get congenial weather all the year round! We are in the sub-tropical area, specifically, in South-Asia. Yes, I am talking about Bangladesh.

It is known as a land of rivers!Mostly, it is a plain land with some hilly areas. We have the longest sandy sea-beach ( Cox's Bazar) and mangrove forest (the Sundarbans) where Royal Bengals live in.

It is a wonder that we have six different seasons. And, each of them is different and noticeable! Of course, we have 12 months in a year but there are two seasons in a month.

These six seasons are Summer, Rainy season, Autumn, Late Autumn, Winter and Spring ( Of course they have Bangla names). As per Bangla calendar, Bangla year starts with Summer. So, there is a celebration on the very first day of Summer. We call it Nababarsha.

Here, Summer is really too hot! If I do travel outside of Dhaka, I like to observe and enjoy the landscape during this season. Sometimes it seems lands are parching under the furious sun! Parched and cracked! Obviously, strong wind and storms come mostly later part of the days, sometimes with hale. So, it is better to get the hanging clothes inside the room before going out!

In this season we enjoy many juicy fruits like Jack- fruit, Mango, Pine- Apple, Berries ( they are not like black berries instead they are sweet, a bit sour but more tasty, I bet!) and many more. Jack- fruit is our national fruit.

to be continued!

  • Thanks a lot Smith! Yes, I know how cold you have to bear during winter though I visited in the beginning of summer! No, we do not write in latin/ english alphabet at all.We have our own different alphabet. we have 'p', ph, d and dh sound, so it helps.I will try to write more about our seasons. Right now it is rainy season and I can see from my window ( office window, of course)the sky seems gloomy, maybe, it will cry soon! Want to know about the weather condition over there and hope you are now dazzling under the sun! Have a good day.

  • Great! Thanks for sharing the seasons with us!

Sorry I somehow missed this blog. The weather is quite different with ours - we have harsh winter. If only we had one season - the spring or autumn!

I don't really know how to enjoy jackfruit - it seems it's available here at the market. Maybe I should try it the next time I see it.

Can you tell me what your language (Bangla)  looks like? You could wite a sentence in Bangla. Do you use the same characters as English - a, b, c...? Do you think it's easier for you to learn English since you use the same letters?

  • Thanks everybody for reading
  • Afro,
Rainy season and late Autumn are new to me. In my country, we enjoy the rain in these days I never considered it a separate season. :)

  • Yes, Afro, mostly it's very hot in Colombo. Sometimes it rains. That's all. But upland areas of Sri Lanka are cooler than Colombo.

In our city, we don't worry about winter clothes or anything. We just wear the same type of clothes all year round.

  • Well.. over here, we have four seasons; hot, hotter, and hottest and a lot of rain in between. LOL
