Hello and good day, all.
I read this case in LinkedIn. I really found it interesting and I wanted to share it here with you. So, here I narrate it as I read it with my translation from my language (Arabic) to English.
The man says:
When I reached my home, I was hungry. So I ordered pizza from the near restaurant and I waited for the delivery. After some time, the delivery called me. He explained that the elevator of my building was broken-down, and he could not ascend the ladders to my flat which was located in the 8th floor. I told the delivery that I would award him if he went up the stairs and delivered my order to me, but he answered "even if you are going to give me 100 Thousand (my order was 17 Thousand only), I will not go up the stairs to the 8th floor." So, I agreed with him to leave it at the keeper of our building. I hung up, and I waited for my order to be delivered by the keeper of our building... I thought to call the management of the restaurant to tell about what happened between me and delivery servant, but I refrained.
Now after you heard my story, there are three questions I'd like to ask:
1- What would you do, if you were in my shoes.
2- What would you do, if you were in the delivery servant 's shoes?
3- What would you do, if you were in the management's shoes?

PS: In fact, I should have published this piece as a discussion, but because I don't feel relevant with the way that my reply in discussion pages' format goes to the least page on the discussion, I decided to publish it as a blog here.

ELF-Noor,
I think you have touched a very sensitive side of the story.. I think that management is the guilty in this case.. Why? because Management role here is supposed to be removing the possible conflict between the customers and the staff in order to offer the best expected service.. in this case, they should have really clarified to either the customer that "restaurant does not deliver to the high floors in the case of elevator is out of order", or the workers that they were hired to deliver to right the doors of their customers, no matter what the situation is!!
Personally, I think that the man in this story should have called the management to complain or to ask for a clarification at least.
Also, I think you were fair in your opinion, Dear Noor.
Thanks for your comment :)
Lol, Anna :D
you beat me this time :P I think the best Mechanical Engineer will be dizzied by your patterns :P
2: If I were in pizza boy shoes then I would try to deliver pizza at door( whether the elevator is working or not) only in one condition if it is includ in rule of restaurant that pizza will must deliver at address without mentioning certain condition..
3: If I were in management shoe then I would something like this.
>>>I would make rule that if the elevator is not working then don't take the order of home delivery because order can be from 1st floor or can be from 10th floor.
OR
>>> I would increase the charges of pizza home delivery in the case of elevator not working...
I thought that a mechanical engineer could find out )
oh Sorry, Anna.. I mixed because you changed the order :D
Not my own destiny
hiiiiiiiiiiiii, Estanis
Sorry I missed your comment, because I was writing my replies at the same time..
I Think you are very fair guy.. I agree with almost everything you said..
Thanks for participating your answer, man..
No, it's just for fun and for exchanging opinions :)
Dear Anna & Rosemary,
I accepted your primary answers on this, but... I would like to attract your attention also to the point which Paula reported in her answer...
Don't you think that as a "customer", you have already paid for the "delivery service". Suppose it was a free service by this certain restaurant... don't you think that even though, the restaurant has promoted itself as it has a "free delivery service".. and perhaps it has a sentence like "We Deliver Food To Your Door" on its advertising menu.. That means that perhaps if you already had knew that this restaurant didn't deliver to your door, you would have not ordered from it, but instead you would have changed your mind and ordered from another restaurant which literally deliver to your door.. After all, don't you think you were deceived or at least you paid for something which you didn't really get???
Dear Anna, are you planning to be in place of management for your future boyfriend? -_- :P
If I don't want to wait I'd suggest to meet on the 4th floor. (With no tip)
2- perhaps it's not a well paid job but I guess I signed a contract to do it so I'd have given the pizza by hand to the client and accepted any tip with pleasure.
3. This is a breach of agreement. If I notice such event I'd have to talk to him.
Hmmm... is this a kind of game AG? :D
