Smartphones are perhaps the most important consumer invention of the 21st century. The millennial generations have been attached to technology and go wherever it takes them. Modern life is swift and it is difficult to keep up with so many things at a time. There is so much that a smartphone can do and so many different ways it can help individuals with their daily tasks or needs. We live according to the era we’re in. In the 90’s the giant Motorola phones were the coolest gadgets that came into play. Then Nokia rose to the top of the phone chain with great designs and more functionality. All kingdoms as the rise of Android and IOS conquered everything else in sight.

Here are 7 reasons why we can’t live without smartphones;

Today, we live in a convenience above all world and the emergence of social media and applications have made smartphones a must have in this age. It’s not about just calling and texting anymore. We want more and we want better every time we upgrade. Connectivity has seen multiple innovations with apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and standard emailing apps also a part of any smartphone to trigger news and communication. Moreover, the best and constantly improving cameras for taking pictures and recording videos are now available on almost every smartphone. The concept is like “one ring to rule them all” by producing, “one gadget to do them all”.

1. Whereabouts and Safety

The young generations are among the highest percentage of smartphone users. Smartphones are incredibly handy in case of emergencies. You can call for help or just resolve your query using Google or YouTube. Most phones now have inbuilt GPS for navigation when traveling to unknown places or following directions. There was a time when users weren’t really accustomed to using this features but since they have been around for a while now, it is impossible for users to cope without them. Parents can also keep tabs on their children at school or have fun somewhere else.

2. All in one functionality

Cellphones have been around for the last two decades and one of the huge impacts they have made is to reduce the usage of other devices. We had a television for watching the news and our favorite movies, a computer or laptop for work and emails, and gaming consoles such as PlayStation for playing games. Now, we can do all of this on our smartphones like watching a movie, listening to music while exercising, sharing stories on Snapchat and Instagram or even texting our friends. Nowadays, using cell phones has become a habit and it will be difficult to go back using many devices when you can simply use one device for all purposes.

3. It’s got the internet

Smartphones are now the most popular way to browse the internet and why wouldn’t they be? You have the internet right in your pocket. All applications we download, all the videos and movies we watch or download and even all the messages we send on Facebook are all thanks to the internet. The internet brings the world to you and your smartphone gathers and processes your information at your convenience. You can Google your research papers, watch live classes on YouTube and even video call your professor if he is up to it off course.

4. Students need to educate themselves

Teachers know that most kids today use smartphones for all their activities, so they’re incorporating new technology into their lesson plans. College students have a hard time being without one as everything from their tasks to research papers to quiz and class schedules are them. Teachers also use Mass Texting Service to connect with their students for schedules, reminders, updates, and results. Every toddler can be seen having a smartphone before they start walking. Listening to poems and cartoons has brought inner peace within parents.  Research indicates that having a smartphone could actually make more productive students.

5. Future Adaption

There is education and then there is technological literacy which goes beyond school. We live in a world which focuses on evolving technology that gets sophisticated with time. IoT devices are the latest technology trends which are being used in many offices and industries. The amazing thing is that smartphones are now being connected with them. In the future, our employment might be on the line if we cannot adapt to using technology.

6. Skills Development

A smartphone is pretty much all you need. They have an app for everything. These apps include fitness, technology, health, medicine, designing, and pretty much everything there possibly is to learn. You can even learn your favorite recipes while making them, monitor your body vitals while training and even study for your exams. Students also learn research and information collecting skills to build upon general knowledge and become renaissance professionals. Statistics show that most Americans can read and write but they do so poorly. Technology innovations such as autocorrect and Google assistant have aided millions in correcting simple spelling mistakes and sentence structures. Engagement with smartphones also allows one to learn a very unique skill which is called context awareness. This is one of the most important emerging communication skills. We can now determine emotions from a text and predict responses. Moreover, from a technological point of view, all the location-based apps implemented in mobile phones allow students to easily access additional information on their surroundings, effectively learning more about the world they live in.

7. Efficiency

One of the things that make smartphones so vital to our daily lives is their efficiency. The speed with which you can do tasks on a smartphone is almost unparalleled. In fact, there are some occasions in which they may even be faster than using computers. The size of a smartphone makes it almost like a miniature computer. This is one of the most important reasons why we cannot live without our smartphones. From a business point of view, smartphones are the most important channel of communication. Businesses use the quick performance of smartphones to send out emails, calls and even bulk SMS to their employees or customers for feedback, information, transaction or even promotions. There have been recent developments indicating that each employee must now own and be able to efficiently use a smartphone.

  • Very informative blog you wrote...

  • Previously I considered cell phone as a luxury, but then later on my family moved to USA, they purchased me a smartphone to remain in contact by voice and vision, when I myself moved to The USA, where my whole family is working, so again there is need to be in contact with me while they are gone to work and I am out for walking, prays, etc. Even I am able to reply emails and other messages spontaneously using smartphone.

    So it is now established that a cell phone, smartphone whatever it is, is essential and unavoidable.
