4 Easy Steps to Use Free Grammar Checker

This article is dedicated for my friend. Recently I shared a simple trick to check whether our writing was grammatically correct or not. I suggested that she could try a free grammar checker, but she has difficulty trying it. Well, I think it will be a good idea for the others to try this free service too. I know that it's not perfect, but at least it can help us improve our grammar. And I hope my explanation will help you, guys.

1. Go to SpellCheckPlus.com

We will see a white area with a sentence: "Type or paste your English text here." and  "Check Text" button on top and below the white area.

2. Type the sentences or paragraph that you want to check on the white area.

Since we use the free edition, we can only check maximum 2000 characters. I will give you an example. Let's say you confuse whether this sentence is right or not:

I will prepare my exam for myself.

Just copy the text and paste it on the white area.

3. Click "Check Text" Button

A box will show up. It offers us to buy a membership program in this website. Don't worry, if you don't want it, just click "OK". It will make the offer goes away. And then, you should see a sentence says "checking in progress, please wait"

4. Correct the sentence.

You should see a yellow mark in the sentence now. Yellow mark is for grammatical error, while red mark is for spelling error. Hover or put your mouse around the yellow mark.

You should see an explanation shows up about the grammar rule to correct the sentence.

Now, correct the sentence manually. I change the sentence into "I will prepare the exam by myself" And then, I click "Check Text" button again.

The yellow mark is gone now. It indicates that my writing is correct.

PS:

I hope no one thinks that I promote other service than EC, I just try to help my friend.

  • @ Surawan

Thanks for your compliment. Well, this web service makes my learning process more automatic and practical...Probably I should share more free services out there that I use to proofread and learn grammar.

  • Dear Ranu , No wonder why your writing is perfect.

I always check grammar by opening the grammar books which are thick and heavy.

I'll try it ! Thanks for sharing.

  • @Tara

Thanks for your comment, Tara. I have been trying this software to proofread my writing (I'm a blogger). I should write on the article that we can't depend solely on this free service to improve our grammar (sorry I forgot it). From my experience, it's not perfect and not contextual. Thus, we have to decide ourselves whether or not we take its suggestions when we try to correct our mistakes. The good thing, this grammar checker is designed for ESL students like me, far better than Microsoft Word's grammar checker. :D I look forward for your review on this service...

  • Excellent presentation! Has anyone else tried this? It sounds like a nice way to learn from your mistakes. On the other hand, you can never fully trust an automated program. Let's hear some feedback folks. Let us know how it works for you!
